Or the players we want don't want to come here/are not available which is a slight problem.

..... Ask yourself why they don't want to come here mate !

There was a time when City, Chelsea were absolute no marks. They attracted a calibre of player that powered them through to where they are now..... By paying their way.

So the slight problem is always going to be our board. That's been the case for almost 3 decades !!

No we don't. We need to buy the right striker not any striker. If we bring a stop gap on loan and use the money in January or even next summer, so be it.

Have a look around, there isn't that many great strikers that clubs are willing to sell. The only one was Giroud but he didn't want to leave.
Please tell me there isn't 1 quality striker playing world football that we could not have got in the passed 6 weeks with the money we could offer

While the lack of a striker is disappointing, who would you have wanted us to sign? I haven't seen anyone move that I felt we missed out on. The only top 6 quality PL strikers mentioned were Benteke and Giroud. I don't think CP would even think about selling Benteke and Giroud would have been ideal but he seems to have decided to stay at Arsenal, nothing we can do about that.

Everyone else is unproven or below the quality we need. I'd rather not get someone than bringing in someone not up to our standard just to do something.

There was a time Giroud was uncertain of staying at Arsenal, that was the time to tempt him with regular 1st team football with WC in 1 year's time. We didn't even make an offer. He's a proven 15 goal/season striker in PL

Swansea made us work for 1.5 month to get Sigu. If we had invested our efforts simultaneously to land suppose Benteke, I am sure by now we'd have him. A 10-15 goals/season striker

We knew Costa's sitiation for a few weeks, if we were serious in him why not make an offer a few weeks prior to panic mode. He's a proven striker too in PL.

Other options could have been Vietto and Timo Werner. The point is you never know who you can get until you try. And we never even made an offer to land any suitable striker. Like Gueye and Kante who were unproven, Walsh could have landed us a gem. So I believe something between him, Koeman and the board is not right. Walsh hasn't or hasn't been allowed to earn his money this summer.

I do think Perez is alright but a loan deal suggests that our primary targets are currently unattainable, for one reason or another.

He scored one goal for Arsenal last season, albeit he only played about 10 games, but he's played four times since Xmas. Every time I watched him last season, like many I'm sure, I felt we had dodged a bullet. He is not what we need, its absolute desperation.

Whats the major difference between City/Chelsea/PSG and the rest of world football

He'd be caught off side all the time as he switches off when the balls not in his area of play

I actually would be more concerned with him coming too deep (same as Rooney) than being offsides from making runs too early. 1/2 of the offsides we get called on from is mostly from our midfielders being slow to see the run and releasing the ball too late.

We werent going to replace Lukaku like-for-like, either in terms of fee or quality. I think most accept that.

A club like us cannot sell for £75M and replace like that.

But then there is a whole galaxy of players below that tier that we could have signed and gotten us 12-15 goals, more even, or at least the potential to grow into a truly great striker.

It should not come down to scrambling arounnd for loans at the bargain basement end of the market, on players of dubious quality.

No excuses will wash.

I think the idea was for Rooney, Sandro and even the likes of Klaassen to get 10-15 goals to fill the gap.

I actually don't think we need an out and out goalscorer (would be nice to get one of course..) but we do need another option up front who offers something different. DCL may offer that one day and will do a job at times this season but we cant really on him every game. I don't think we need a "big" name or a statement signing, just someone who can hold up the ball and get on the end of some crosses.
