Coleman Signs New Five-Year Contract

Loyalty works both ways, we can't have a pop at players who don't want to play for us then cast out the ones who do if they ever get injured. I think it's a great gesture that the injury hasn't altered Everton's commitment to him. Hopefully he's back soon and we have 5 years of a top full back.

spot on this mate. Can't be having a deal ready to sign on the table and he breaks his leg and then just go "erm about that contract Seamus, let's wait until you get better eh".

Regardless if he never came back the same player, it's a gentleman's agreement so fair play to Everton. He's been a great servant ( I thought he lost his way big time under Martinez for 18 months ) and someone I'd rather have in the team than on the oppositions side.

spot on. the ones who moan the most about there being no loyalty from players anymore, are the ones who want rid of players if they have the audacity of getting injured or aging.

Were I running EFC I would not have presented such deal to Seamus. I think it's a heart ruling head scenario.

We are EPL journey-men

I'm going to assume Coleman's leg is going to be just fine. I'm also happy that none of us have to think about replacing a RB any time soon.

Being an accountant, I am used to being prudent.

I think its madness personally considering the injury and recovery to come.

Obviously were now swimming with money though...
exactly my thoughts. if he does have to retire we would get some back, but in a situation like oviedo where there is recovery but not to the same level, we're stuffed. I know it's nice to be nice, but this is nearly 20m we are talking about here.

A contract until he's 33.

Too long. We don't even know if he'll fully recover from his injury. I think the club have this wrong, I'd have gone with a year contract with an automatic 2 years extension if he plays a certain amount of games.

Genuine question.
Without Googling, name one top balls player who came back not a top balls player after breaking his leg. If possible, he in question must have played the game in the last...say... 15 years - when medical science / sports science was really ramped us with Doctors/Experts employed within football clubs.

I think it's a great gesture to coleman, it allows him to recover knowing he isn't gonna find himself suddenly without a club, I think he's the kind if player mentally that will come back just as strong (not afraid of a tackle) plus it sends a great message to any young up and coming player that Everton will really look after you and not just throw you on the scrap heap

yep, agree with you on this one. Pray he comes back to his best but looks like a decision out of sentimentality and not sense
