Summer Priority

for me the priority is defo a striker.

not that cahill, saha and yak are bad , i just think we need another option.

in yak we have strength , cahill we have tenacity , saha we have flair , but where is the height ?

i just think a tall center forward with good ball control is the thing we lack ,someone 'like' berbatov or bendtner.

ps if wolves go down then i think a bid for doyle would be ok.
if west ham go down i wouldnt mind parker and cole.

This.

Saha has 13 goals this season, is one of the top 10 strikers in the premiership...and that's from an injury prone striker in a team who's form at the start of the season was woeful.

Yakubu's track record speaks for itself. He's had a awful injury that can be a career killer. He's had no pre-season. He's also not getting a great run of games. He's only had 4 full 90minutes this season. He's been performing well, scored 3 goals, has 3 assists. And if Im being all fact-finding...everytime he has played, we've scored 2+ goals per game. So his all round game, asisde from his goals, helps the team.

Saha creates his own goals. Yak is a finisher, 99% of his goals are inside the box, tap ins. He should've played today rather than doing the usual 70th minute cameo for Saha. They should've both been on the pitch at some point.

I can see Yak going in the summer. Who will come in, I dont know but I will be gutted him going. He's our main striker IMO, Saha should be used when he can to kill games (like last season). I love him.

I dont think goals are a problem either. Its how we attack.

And I stopped reading right here as this is it in a nutshell.

This thread demonstrates how many Evertonians, when it comes to Yak & Saha, fall into one of two camps:

1) Short memories
2) What have you done for me lately?

I mean really. Really?

We have people banging on Yak after coming off a potentially career threatening injury for a football player?

Neiler also hit it dead on.

With a healthy Yak & Saha, they're both scoring 15+ each in a season. So lets go out and load up on strikers?

There's really only one signing we need to make and that's Donovan as most Evertonians believe.

Other than that, lets use our money for tying up players like Pienaar to new contracts.

Again, I agree with you. This was the first Everton game that I did not try to watch. Why? Because I am moving. Surrounded by big packing boxes, downsizing, and trying to figure out what goes into storage and what stays....(Sort of what you all consider after every game that you lose or tie). AND, I read the whole game on here, and deceided that I did not need more stress in my life, by watching a game where I already knew the outcome. Especially since I knew it would be on another crap feed. #$%^&*()

Strikers, they failed today, so I guess this is the reason for this thread. Half the strikers mentioned on here I have not heard of. Thats fine, (I am new to this), but, are the ones that you can afford really going to be any better than what you have? The top tier strikers are beyond Everton's purse. The young guys are a project and are going to have good days and bad, like TODAY! I think you should just develop what you have, or maybe get a newbie for a song. Other than that, what are the options given the price restraints? You all know a lot more than me, are the players mentioned resonable? Better than what Everton now has?

As a Yank, I would love to see Donovan again. He adds a lot to the game with his pace and abillity to play several positions, AND, that the fact that he would probably come back to Everton for less money than others, simply because he wants to be here, and he belongs here.

I feel that I have gotten to know your team, and the posters on here. You live and die with each game. But, one game it is Howard who is questionable, the next game it is the defense, then some midfield problems, and then the strikers.

Did you all not beat Chelsea? MU? and others that you were not expected to beat? Hello! All teams have problems and positions that break down. You have a solid core of players, I think, and solid coaching. You also have some absolute stand outs...

There are only two things that bother me, and that are the balls that are often times booted up to the box and go nowhere, well rather to the opponent, and the CORNERS. Other than that Everton is solid in my mind. BTW, you do not even have Fellaini back.

Have to get back to packing......sad game today, it seemed, from what I read, that this game was a missed opportunity. ILYB..........

BTW, what is or who is Sharpey? Sp? I did not cross spell check.

I think the reason we complain is that we usually drop important points against teams that we should beat. It's all very frusterating.

I agree, but did not Chelsea and MU fans feel the same way? I support Everton and it is frustrating, but soccer, ie, football is frustrating

Must spread rep sadly kenada.:( Top posting in this thread. How many of our 22 shots against Wolves involved Saha or Yak in the build up? Plenty from my early morning memory. You've nailed their linking play and role in creating space for our advanced midfielders in our current system.

I disagree though that the Yak will be sold. Moyes said we might not see Yak 100% this season. We'll need to see how Yak goes next season and judge then. We'll still get a decent price even if he's not making regular appearances next year. He'd appeal to a number of clubs I'm sure.

Beckford on a free is fine by me as the only striker this window. Vic could still go either way long term and if Donovan could be recruited for a reasonable amount he'd be another option up front and one with pace which we've lacked.

Pienaar signed up is the priority for me and retaining Rodwell.

Donovan would be my dream signing but don't think it will happen. Someone I mentioned in the summer is Zaragoza's portuguese winger Eliseu. He was at Malaga last season and was instrumental in their being the surprise package in La Liga. went to Lazio in the summer for something rediculous like 1 million. signed by Zaragoza in the January window and has been a major factor in them climbing out of the relegation zone.
Easily as fast as Donovan and technically good on the ball. Definitely a reasonable alternative at a much lower price.

Oh, he's taken the place of some some lad called Jermaine

Centre half & right back are the two positions that would concern me the most. Hopefully Coleman benefits from his stint at Blackpool but I can't see him being ready for August. Yobo seems like he's on his way, Senderos has not really worked out & Distin (although playing reasonably well at the moment) is not going to keep going forever. Jags & Heitinga at the back is a top class partnership but we need a top class reserve also.

Being honest I'd be pleased with retaining what we have along with the 'proposed' Donovan and Beckford signings. I do hope Donovan or rather the U.S. of A have a stinker of a WC.. so the probables are taken out of the equation..

Must run before Texas Bill and the likes give me a spit-roast..

I've always rated N'zogbia. I think he would benefit from being around better players and having a better manager. STill relatively young and can play at left back and left wing.

I would really like us to sign a decent proper old fashioned tall centre forward. Someone that can get on the end of crosses from Pienaar/Baines/Neville etc. We have Cahill but someone who absolutely thrives on balls into the box.

Oh no, it's another "we need striker" topic, maybe somebody will make "Moyes needs to go" and "Arteta lost his heart" too...
We have 2 good strikers - they aren't Torres, but we can't afford Torres. And they are definitely good enough to be a starter and back-up for a TOP 4 team.

If there's any striker I would look at... it's Own Goal, I don't know how much MU did paid for him, but maybe he has a twin?

N'Zogbia is great, but will cost at least 10 mln. So not a chance... unless we sell Fellaini or Rodwell.

Extending Pienaar's contract has to be a priority.

Btw - I always wanted this to know: how did we fund Yakubu, Baines and Jagielka transfers in summer 2007
