James McCarthy

What has gone on with Davek? He seems to be on a one man mission to talk utter tosh in an attempt to look a fool.

I don't get it.
Let him get on with it. He's set his stall out so.....

Anyway, for me I'm in two minds about McCarthy, but I lean toward letting him go.

Quality additions to the squad needed though obvs.

Caveat that it was against two very slow players in the midfield against him mate. Still don't think he can stick with players with pace/movement now
that's not true mate, at all.
he sits in front of the back 4 thus he was up against a fluid advanced three of KDB, Sterling and Silva.
Zab and Yaya were sat deep punching the ball into the above 3 and Aguero.
He was absolutely brilliant against some of the best players in the PL. He wasn't anyywhere near high enough to be contesting against the two you're (seemingly) referencing. They were being closed down by Barkley, Kev and Davies.
Anyway, on topic, I think James Mac is too good to let go personally.

He's effectively behind Gueye, Schneiderlein and Davies. As i said regarding Besic if he wants first team football or even semi regular game time he'll have to leave.

For me we could get £15-17 million for Mccarthy, £10-12 million for Cleverly and around £5-6 million for Besic.

We would still have 3 very good CDM's + Barry, and £30-35 million in the bank to be reinvested in other areas of the squad.

For me no point of letting him go now if we don't sign another quality CM as replacement. Maybe wait till the summer.

It is just really disruptive to the forum imo.

Anyway, I really like Jimmy, he has been back to his high tempo, high energy self and he would be great to keep on the bench for the inevitable injury spells. A few more goals would not go amiss though.

Koeman might be seeing Schneiderlin as Barkley's successor, even more so with the rise of Davies. I think he;s determined to get Barkley out and he'll be looking to cover some of the spending he's done.

Not in my opinion. As soon as his own stock is high here and he feels he can shuffle a prized local asset out the door without any protest he'll do it.

he sees, imo. Barkley as neither fish nor fowl for him....and in his system he's right. the lad wont prosper under the way Koeman sets up. He'll be better off for his own career getting out to a class outfit who can provide the platform he can play off. But that would't be a good day for Everton.

Might be wrong but isn't cleverly 6mill if they buy and you would be luck to get a bag of sweets for besic.

You underestimate the prices average players are going for now. Deeney was £30 million rated, Dwight Gayle went for £10 million, Wijnaldum £25 million, Gestede £6 million, Ross McCormack £10-12 million etc.

Cleverly for all his faults is still of a good age, ex England international and is an established PL player. He would easily fetch £10 million in the current market.

Doubt that dave. They're apples and pears, or something.
He demands Barkley get behind the ball, and Koeman tasked Schneidrlin to get up into the opposition half more at Southampton.

I can honestly see a convergence of the role RB has been playing and the role of one of the CM berths taking place under Koeman. The position as played by RB is now obsolete...and Koeman doesn't do playmakers.

I thought he played well again when he came on. Actually went past a man, broke play up, got a good tackle in to get the crowd going.

His big strength is he is a leader and the sort of player you'd hate to play against. He'll fight, argue, tackle, kick, annoy you. We miss those sort of players and you need them in the squad. Increasingly under Martinez his role became more and more about covering for other players. Coleman, Stones, Barry, Barkley etc. He looks now to be playing his game, which is getting around the pitch pressing. using his stamina, and where possible taking people on, which he has in there.

Alex Fergusan went through a spell of using Darren Fletcher in big games. I see McCarthy as a similar type of player and could be used in a similar way. He can break the opponents rhythm and flow. I think Koeman has had a change of heart on him as a result of this, and his body is no longer letting him down.

The question is, will McCarthy be happy to be a squad player on that basis. To be used in shorter bursts but quality bursts where he can push his body to the limit, and not be left plagued by injuries.

Watford have the option to buy at 6m as part of the loan mate, so no he wouldn't fetch 10m

Yet arsenal game on, there's mounting evidence that Barkley seems to fit into the 3-4-3 system better than the one he's played under most of his career.
Also hes working a lot harder and fitness seems greatly improved.

Who says koemans handling of him isn't exactly the thing he needed mate, the other way certainly failed, had the lad almost a wreck in the tunnel such was his confidence shot.

Simple question, you think Barkley looks a lot more determined of late?

Will ignore the bait about advocating him leaving mate,
Barkley exploded onto the scene because of the way RM set up primarily away from home with a massive emphasis on Barkley spearheading the counter attacking drive we deployed so often away.

That's Barkleys game. He isn't a pack mule who'll do a Gueye role, and he isn't a Mata type. He can adapt yes - under Koeman he has laid the ball off for a simple pass more often now. But that isn't the beauty or significance of his game. He's a Lampard type. Obviously he won't get his goals, but that's what he does: picks up at the halfway line and drives for goal making things happen.
