James McCarthy

I think we can afford to sell McCarthy. I think we have a decent chance to recieve an offer in 15 to 20 million area for him. He is an exprienced HG player in PL, still young, and definetely has some qualities for mid-table teams. Clubs like WBA or NU should be all over him and if that offer from NU is real, I can see him going there. With Benitez, they are likely playing close to their potential and almost surely are playing PL the next season, and in reality they are financially probably the 8th most wealthy club in PL already the next season, as WHU is a disaster right now and we are jumping from mid-table right in-between top 6 and the rest of the league. Plus they have a lot of money after some fantastic business they have done with Wijnaldum and Sissoko.

We are playing 3 men in central midfield. Schneiderlin, Gueye, Barry, Besic, Davies, Barkley. That's still 6 players for 3 positions. I think it is an ideal time to sell McCarthy now or in summer. He should be in his prime years, his price should reach the absolute maximum in his career. And I think as we don't count with McCarthy to play in starting lineup, he should go for a right offer. Gueye, Schneiderlin, Barkley is probably our lineup. Barry, Besic, Davies backups. And Liam Walsh, Kieran Dowell and Jonjoe Kenny with an expected push to the first team squad, plus we likely should be interested in a top creative midfield player to help Barkley. I think we really don't have a real need for McCarthy to have him here, his role should be occupied by Schneiderlin, Davies and I rate Besic on a similar level as McCarthy, even through McCarthy's price is much higher at the moment. I think we should play it like: let's say he is a really important player for us, and so we will consider only good offers for him and if he stay here for spring, then even play him to showcase him for a sale... and then sell him. With some luck, we may then go from McCarthy to Schneiderlin only for a few millions.

Tbf, I've never from anything Koeman has said thought that McCarthy is not in his plans. And why wouldn't he be? He's a player than gives his all and gets in opponents faces; picks up a lot of second balls in the middle and recycles it.

If he was in his plans mate why did he prioritise buying two centre mids, and why has he given Davies his head in there.

McCarthy is probably seen as a useful squad player by Koeman, but does McCarthy want to be just that, rumours are he wants to be.a regular first choice, he won't get that here again really.

Said before, a McCarthy who proved his fitness probably would have had a great shot at winning Koeman over, but Gueye being outstanding and Davies emergence would have been predicted by few, schneiderlin was too good a player and too good a fit not to bring in - as having a player who knows what the manager wants inside and out of that quality will help the entire team.

McCarthy is too good a player to be sat as 4/5th choice for us atm, and he will bring in a good price.

Maybe that fee will then be recycled into improving the final third like you want in which case we have strengthened in two positions mate.

Koeman might be seeing Schneiderlin as Barkley's successor, even more so with the rise of Davies. I think he;s determined to get Barkley out and he'll be looking to cover some of the spending he's done.

If he wanted Barkley out mate he would be out, not bring subbed last minute of the last two wins at home to get the lad a standing ovation. Of anyone in the squad it's obvious he's the one he's putting the most time into trying to get him to find consistency.

Not in my opinion. As soon as his own stock is high here and he feels he can shuffle a prized local asset out the door without any protest he'll do it.

he sees, imo. Barkley as neither fish nor fowl for him....and in his system he's right. the lad wont prosper under the way Koeman sets up. He'll be better off for his own career getting out to a class outfit who can provide the platform he can play off. But that would't be a good day for Everton.

...I think he's given all of them a chance. I get the impression the performances against Arsenal and Liverpool have given RK 2nd thoughts re McCarthy.

Saying that, I also think the club are mindful of fair play rules and the need to boost club income in the summer to give us greater scope in that window and the one after. I think it will only be the summer when we really know where Koeman stands with the likes of McCarthy and Barkley and whether he'd be happy to sell if the right offer comes in.

A Koeman system yesterday where is was integral in two of the goals, have a word with yourself!

Yet arsenal game on, there's mounting evidence that Barkley seems to fit into the 3-4-3 system better than the one he's played under most of his career.
Also hes working a lot harder and fitness seems greatly improved.

Who says koemans handling of him isn't exactly the thing he needed mate, the other way certainly failed, had the lad almost a wreck in the tunnel such was his confidence shot.

Simple question, you think Barkley looks a lot more determined of late?

Will ignore the bait about advocating him leaving mate,
