What on earth are you going on about mate ?

Today was the first game after an international break, Barry was suspended and we looked clueless without him. I have no problem with replacing him with someone better, but people who can't recognise what a good player he is are in grave danger of being labelled as a bit daft.
He is 36 mate.

How many more years do we have to have him first choice? how many games will he miss though them being too close together?

Plus in the scheme of things , Neville Distin Howard jjagielka, what's the connection? all older players we tried to get one more season out of them as first choice in their position and it blew up in our face. This will happen again with Barry. you will tell me I'm wrong because he is a model pro and all that but there comes a time when he won't be able to play top level football. Taking into account we currently have to replace Gibson besic in the squad as it stands, we will end up as we are with jags, as we were with Howard and so on.

We were clueless without him today yes most certainly. If he goes down due to injury we have no purpose. What I witnessed today was crap on a major scale. We were giving Fabinaski easy practice on crosses. Two games in a row we looked like we didn't care.

He will doubtless run out of steam and need replacing, but the only time he's looked consistently off the pace was when he was playing in the Europa games as well as the league. That won't be happening this season.

Basically rather than admitting that we missed him today, you want to talk about his replacement, which is fair enough in some ways but is all a bit one dimensional.

Barry's footballing brain puts him into a different category than the likes of Jagielka, Distin, Howard and Neville. He has more nouse than the four of them put together.

To be fair, if we had a limitless amount of funds available I'd happily see him replaced, but at this exact moment in time it's hardly a priority.

I'm not talking about generally though, there will be point where he does need replacing except at that point it could be far past the point of us needing to in the short term. I don't say it out of generally critiquing him, we see it happen over and over with our older players going beyond the point of being able to play at this level so it isn't like I suggest it out of the blue.

The fact we missed him also is a worrying thing because it speaks volumes about the club. The fact we keep getting windows and doing nothing in regards to adding able midfielders, one really in years, is it still odd that replacing Barry is not near the top of my priorities? he can always be a squad player but once he stops being a first 11 player then it is too late.

In terms of limitless funds? no we don't, but if the club haven't got significant finds at least available if not willing then there has to be some questions into thst, but wrong thread for that.

True we really missed him yesterday, some cant see how important he is to Everton right now

mate we all came to the conclusion that @Ashtonian was daft a long time ago . He's a proper mad man

You dont think replacing a 36 year old who cannot dictate games at the top level and was just totally destroyed against Chelsea isnt a priority mate?

He should be on the bench and we 'should' be playing a superstar next to Gana if we want to improve.

He merits a place in the team until we can bring in someone who can use the ball as well as him but is younger and more mobile

Until then I don't see the point of moaning about him. I certainly wouldn't drop him for Gibson, McCarthy, Cleverley or Besic.

average player, he's smart enough to know his limits, and they are plenty, so he's capable of doing a job, but we've for the large part being a rudderless goal conceding catastrophe in his time here, supposedly he's this leader who protects the defense, begs the question is he that good?

He's an experienced, canny player. He does a lot of unheralded but necessary work. And he's about the only one of this lot who can be called on to put a foot in when required...in and of itself worth a starting place.

He needs one either side of him.

at least you stopped short of saying the unseen work, he's a one footed fossil, who is despite his overrated leadership qualities unable to influence either the game or the dressing room, get rid
