Everton: we look an unhappy camp

Same in any place of work. Things get stale and fresh faces are needed. People who are there too long with no competition for places sometimes develop an arrogance or self importance and think they are bigger than the organisation/club. Cliques are formed. Sometimes delusions of being irreplaceable.

Koeman needs to get a few good players in who are loyal to him. Create a new spine to the team. Otherwise, he will be a victim of player power. He seems to have a strong character so hopefully he will prevail.

No ones beating the door down to replace the out of form players. Drop any players and its only replacing them with the same level of player and that's why the summer transfer window was an absolute disgrace

Holgate improved game on game culminating in motm against stoke and was dropped....Davies whilst still a munchkin performed better than some and still cant get many minutes...

I cant see how koeman picks on merit especially after watching bolasie.

Well at least they look a bit fitter this season. For the rest I can only say not too much by the looks of it. Lukaku looks a lot sharper this season though. It's not his squad yet, so that's why I keep saying at least two more windows before I start judging.

Basically then (and a but extreme i guess), weve had a fitness coach work more with them + jeffers and ferguson work with lukaku more intensely?

To be fair, any manager coming in can blame the players each game and we can wait 2 windows till he signs more duds (stek/bolasie) or hope walsh does the hiring (gana)...

I guess there is only so many times and so many ways we can say we need a complete overhaul. 3 signings in January as a minimum and another 6 or so in the summer.

What we are seeing at present is the culmination of years of under-investment and more recently, poor signings by Martinez, and the botched summer window.

We could always rely on effort and commitment to get us through but not so anymore.

I expect more of a disinterested and apathetic camp than an unhappy one currently.

Good thing is the amount of new personnel off the pitch this year who hopefully aren't blinkered by the small club mentality of old (RK please be careful in future).

Hope springs eternal.
Early season form and four wins on the bounce suggest otherwise. The players are here to do more than an adequate job. They're not though.

Apart from a small few, I have zero faith in this group of players, and I don't think Koeman will be able to get anything out of them.

A few decent first-team signings in January and the mood will be more positive.

Somehow we have to stumble our way through till then.

Good post. Realistically this group of players is a mid table team at best and they're not getting any better, we don't have any players outside the first team that are going to come into the team and provide anything different. It's a first team of steady comfortable players and then just absolute dross like cleverley, kone and valencia on the bench.

We needed a lot more players moved on and a lot more players brought in over the summer plus the ones that were brought in were from swansea, villa, palace, fulham and west ham - that's not really going to get the club rising up the league.

Why not address the issue rather than play the man? Not just you but the other cry babies here who wont face the reality of where we are.

Because Dave i will discuss with you on things i think are valid points (have done with Jegielka and other numerous issues) and on others i won't bother as honestly know you well enough by now to know you've set your agenda and won't budge and really cba getting into more 100+ pages of back and forths over crap :)

Why, three months into the season and for the last two games have the players suddenly stopped doing the things that Koeman has so publicly said he expects them to do? Has there been a falling out, players not happy with his methods? Who knows? Only Gueye yesterday played in the manner required of them.

Forgot about holgate i must admit plus sending galloway out on loan wasn't the greatest move either i reckon.

I wonder if in Jan even if we miraculously signed Belotti and Sule as starters and switched to two up top would their quality and desire rub off on the rest of the team?

A solitary win since September 17th. Manager looking less than a great fit, personality wise, and making a lot of off the cuff comments. A team now looking like it's lost the plot.

I look across the first team and bench and see cause for concern: a GK who knows he's under scrutiny; a captain who looks like he's lost discipline on and off the pitch; the ongoing festering boil that is the McCarthy situation; Lukaku making it known he's relieved on international duty to be playing with players up and around him; Mirallas and Deulofeu looking like they are bit part players and heading for the door; Barkley finding himself the unwanted centre of attention and target for the media.

The team have been questioned again this week about their intensity by Koeman - who also let slip midweek he hoped for four replacements for them in January. Next up is a tough grudge match away to S'ton whose players will be fired up and then 5 tough games on the spin after that culminating on Boxing Day away to Leicester. I cant see the type of fight here with this team that we could envisage picking up more than 5 points. The lack of reaction after the Chelsea mauling was shocking, and that's the best chance we'll have of nailed on three points out the window for some time to come. I hope in private they're sorting this out and that the manager is accepting that he too needs to up his game, because that dressing room can be pretty volatile. Once its lost it's lost for good. They dont do it in public, they make the anodyne comments - all the right noises about doing their 'level best' and 'dont know where it's going wrong' etc, but they know how to 'work to rule' and slip into a crisis mode very quickly.

This upcoming Southampton game will be enormous IMO.

Actually think there are some very valid points and concerns raised in this.

Hopefully Koeman is worth his weight in gold and can sort some of these problems out, but we have a tough run in now and it won't be easy.
