Sir Landon Of Donovan

i didn't like his response to the goal, after that point it seemed like he for the most part hung his head and gave up, he wasn't making nearly as much of an effort, and neville seemed caught out a couple times because landon wasn't there showing for him.

most american fans see landon as a leader on the pitch, as he's captain for club and country, and i think it would have really lifted the team if he had showed some more character and really risen to the occasion, but he seemed to give up and do just the opposite. i was never a fan of his before, but he had been winning me over up until this game. and i'm not just reacting because we lost, its the lack of resolve in the face of a one goal setback that dissapoints me.

You know you have challenged me to check out Landon and his availabilty for Neville. I have been harsh on Neville nearly every Derby game and today was no different but I'll check out what your saying. Still Neville had a cock up on the goal.

they sell bison at a big wholesale butchers near me, it's right on the east lancs at astley (meatmart). they sell allsorts, including crocodile, snake, kangaroo, and some african plains type lion snacks.

* i don't mean they sell lion.

I grew up about 200 metres from there. And worked in that horrific Lenders, which (not) sadly burnt down a few years ago on Boxing day. last time I went in they had a whole rattlesnake in the freezer, curled up and everything, was hideous.

Anyways, wanted to ask on the OFFICIAL AMERICAN THREAD , is Landon an official american heart throb? Because I kind of fancy him. I mean, mental hair-line aside, he's definitely got 'it'.

I don't know about that. I didn't notice him drop out of the game. Neville hasn't really been able to link with Donovan well yet. Landon is at his most dangerous when he is running into space but Neville hardly every slides in a ball to him like that. It is frustrating seeing Landon pass back so much instead of making the turn but that is not how he plays. He needs to be facing the goal but Neville won't pass to him unless they meet halfway.

Maybe Landon will get a bit better at making the turn and losing the defender and hopefully Neville will do better at sliding him a through ball into space. Either way I thought Donovan looking pretty good especially since that was one of the most famous clubs in the world he played against today.

Hate this to be my first post, but you're going to need a female perspective...
For the USMNT, the "heart throb" would most definitely be Carlos Bocanegra and there are probably several others in front of LD. Landon is the most well known player. He is probably the one (only?) name/face that non-soccer fans in the US would know. US players can pretty much walk around any city in the US completely anonymous. I have seen Howard mention in interviews how nice it is to come home to Jersey and have no one know him.

Welcome to the forum.

I well prefer Landon over Carlos.

Where do you stand on the Cahill Vs Arteta debate? Pure sex appeal Vs Iberian good looks....

Landon has his fans, that's for sure. Have you seen him in his days as peroxide blond?? May make you rethink things :P

Have to go with Cahill. Arteta's bit too much of pretty boy for my tastes.

Shame Jozy Altidore was not picked up by Everton. He is having a monster game in the for 20 minutes for Hull against Man City. Has dawn 2 fouls for yellows and a goal and seems like he is finally coming into his own. Of course, he's been with Hull from the start of the season. Donovan bagged his first in far less time and will eventually show his worth in gold eventually. I have no doubt Donovan is going to wake up and start attacking in waves soon enough.

Jozy has done well in some games, got a couple goals in cup competetions and drew a pen or two as well in prem matches. Good defenders (i.e. not City) know his tricks and can handle him but he tears up fragile defenses.

Man City couldn't handle Jozy, so Brown in all his wisdom took him off in the 66th minute and City took over. If Jozy had a real manager like Moyes he'd be ace. At the worst he's a better option than Anichebe.

Jozy came off yesterday due to a knock.

Very astute observation toffeestillidie. I did notice him whining a bit after the goal was conceeded. He was looking for fouls. I think one thing that is difficult for Landon is that he is a leader but he is still trying to find his place, or pecking order within the team. On the US side he would kick people in the posterior and tell people in the team that their performance isn't acceptable. He doesn't feel comfortable doing that in the Everton side. That being said, I would expect Landon to lead more by example until he has proven himself. Very well put.

Anichebe is a better player than Altidore, no question.

19 year old Anichebe is without question a better player than Jozy. Anichebe has regressed though. I guess its not all his fault he's been hurt and being put on the wing when he's being subbed in.
