Ross Barkley

I believe we were ripped off over Stones' fee. That was well under what City would have been prepared to pay, imo. They knew though that we were desperate to start our summer spending and that we needed to get a transfer window pot together. Barkley is a young ENGLISH international with an attacking game and that is a commodity at a premium.

Sterling: £49M two summers ago. Today with the crazy inflation he'd have fetched for Liverpool about £65M.

A season like last season's where he scored 8 and made another 8 will put him up in the £50M bracket.

If we sold him for anything like £40M that's another pasting we take on top of the Stones rip off.

Amen.

Distribution side of his game is superb, granted. He also has the happy knack of being 'there' when the ball pops out loose in and around the box to secure the ball.

...

I think we'd be lucky to get it over £30M, tbh. Obviously if those brewstered mugs want to throw nearer £40M at it they're quite welcome to do so.

Hmmm
The latter was talking about Chelsea like in summer 2015 as opposed to City in summer 2016, and there was some "transfer inflation" inbetween, but my WUMdar is ringing out loud and clear here.

Osman has scored miles more stunning goals than Ross has. I'd say for Ross you can count the one above, plus his Gwladys Street one against City. Osman scored about 15 great goals for us. That said, he is over 10 years older. ;)

If Bobby had still been in the hot seat the Stones sale would have been an absolute master stroke, we'd have shafted City dry for £50m. Get with the narrative mate.

Have you been following the gist of this debate mate and my position in it? It doesn't look like it from that post.

There is absolutely no contradiction between what I've said in the past and now. Just to explain for clarity: my point has always been that Stones isn't worth big money as a defender. Period. He's a talent and a valuable one further up the pitch, in my longstanding opinion. As for the £40m price tag: that was two summers ago, since which time prices have rocketted and anyone would be out of their mind not to have demanded well in excess of that this summer. Exertion didn't though, they got mugged off.

Sorry if all that sounds like "wumming" to you. Maybe you should put your thinking cap on before you post, otherwise someone might think you're the one on the wind up.

Stop talking rubbish barkleys highlight reel in a short career particularly his goals wouldn't be beaten by 90% of players highlights for there whole career.
His goal with his left foot v Qpr the goals against Norwich & Watford off the top of my head city at home city away.

Your knowledge of football is embarrassing support the lad he has his issues & faults but their is nothing than can't be worked through.

It's 2016 lad.
2016 - 2015 = 1 year, not two.

You were happy to sell him for 30m last Summer, but think 45m, a 50% increase was undervaluing him ?
The words Okay and mate were put on this world for times like these :)

I like you, and I like your style and I like the way it makes people bite, so I'll leave you to it.
Have fun.

This is probably why he is struggling to be honest.

Massive expectations that he cant live up to and fans expecting him to do it all the time. Barkley has had a few magic moments but if he did them all the time then they wouldnt be magic any more.

Until we alter our expectations of him I think he will always be destined to "fail".

I dont expect it from him all the time he is 22 years old. The point i was addressing is that his best moments involve passages of play that only the very best players can produce.

There are a number of posters who are continually spouting utter drivel such as he is rubbish or drop him & play niasse instead, it's not funny its ridiculous throw enough sh*t and it sticks.

This allied to the tendency within the press & media to basically judge him differently to the majority of other players within the league is leading to him gaining a reputation which is undeserved.

There was a tweet regarding his first half performance v palace & it listed some very very impressive stats yet somehow history has been re-written & he stunk in reality first half he was the best player on the pitch yes he dropped off in the second half but so did the rest of the team.

Your thought's on football over the last few seasons have been way of the mark. The value of a player is as much determind by how much a club is willing to pay/how little a club is willing to sell for

THIS ^^^^

It's perverse the joy some Everton fans get out of kicking a player like this.

I said it a week or so again and I'll shamelessly declare it to be right on the money: these people who destroy Barkley would rather see some talentless drone with zero talent who runs around all day creating zip but who pumps his fist and kisses the badge.
