Missing Cahill

Neiler

Player Valuation: £100m
Does anyone else think we are begining to miss the all action style, and terrier like commitment that Super Tim brings to the centre of the midfeild. Ok at times he runs himself ragged and gets booked just to let other people know hes about. But in many ways he sets a tempo and example for the team that without hiim is all to lacking in terms of leadership.

As Suits famously said hes the type of player you want in your team drawing 1:1 70 mins against chelsea! lol.

Thoughts?

absolutely, cahill provides an edge none of the other midfielders have, that and his salmon like capacity for jumping allows him to win headers he has no right to even think about.

It will be interesting to see where he plays. I'd be tempted to have a midfield of: Arteta - Graveson - Carsley/Jagielka/Neville - Cahill

With the exception of Pienaar we don't have a winger in the old style at the club and the modern trend is for the wide midfielders to attack with the central midfielders holding, hence why for large parts we have Osman and Arteta in the wide areas. I doubt many would argue that Cahill is a better option than Osman. Whether he'd have the discipline of Osman though is another matter.

I was going to make a cahill topic, because...i was watching highlights of everton Vs Watford (3-0) (just two matches after he came back from injury, and 1 match before he got injured again) and Cahill showed something else. He still had his edge, and his type of style of play in the midfield, but in the match he did flick ons, volleys, shots, chips, over head kicks and defending!, and this was all in a 4-4-2 formation!

Cahill brings an edge to midfield, hes a great partner for arteta, recieving the crosses. Hes a player who can bring the ball down from the long hoofs and pass up to johnson and yakubu, hes a danger in the box, hes adventourous...

...hes boss....

the best thing with cahill is he will do what our other mids wont and thats get in the box time and time again and score...you dont see carsley , nev ,arteta or osman in the box trying to attack the ball... and i think cahill with be brilliant playing along grav(y)

We miss him big time.

He brings something that not alot of players brings to the teams, not just goals, but that extra bit of fight in the midfield, hes better then [Poor language removed] Neville or Carsley in the midfield, thats for sure

I've mentioned him in numerous other topics, he is so vital to our team we hardly realize it. We think Arteta is our main source of midfield, but Cahill offers lots more which even a skillful player cant offer and thats charisma, effort, liveliness and determination. Not to mention what a great talent and goalscorer he is.

No doubt no one can wait till hes back. He is the reason Johnson was firing over and over. Major difference once hes back, we'll win most games with him.

Just to make the point if we are saying that Cahill, brings and edge, example, determination, charisma and tenacity to our side, should he be captain.

Ive noticed in the last few games that no one real player has stuck there chest out when things have been going bad and got stuck in the way cahill does.

Should he be captain ahead of Pip?

If Cahill could prove his worth in a 442 then I would definitely consider making him captain. I'm fed up of hearing the excuses and empty promises that come from Neville.

i was telling people cahill for captain before weir got it
i thought and still think it would help him not get booked so much

But he was still fairly young back then, he's now 27/28 and had a good couple of runs in the premiership. Also when Neville was made captain he did seem ideal for the job, he was commanding players on the field and was generally pretty good.

Since being made captain however his form has dropped, he doesnt command the field anymore and makes empty statements like, "the lads have learned and are gooing to give 100% today" only to see them run around half hearted, himself included.

The natural captain of course is Stubbs, but he doesnt get enough games to really hold the position.
