Reclamation is the act of returning something to a former, better state.

Make of that what you will.
Islamic based terrorism is primarily based on them being salafists, alas committed to what they see as a purer Islam that rejects any innovations.

They want to reclaim Islam and remove any chances since the time of Mohammed and the original caliphate, thus where reclamation came from.

From that, IS want to establish a global caliphate which to that extent is opposed to any branch of Islam that doesn't comport to their view.

Obviously non-Muslims aren't in their grand plan either, hence the number of attacks in the West; add to that individual actions by those countries!

Eschatologically, they believe that the end time is coming, in particular that they're destined to be victorious in an apocalyptic battle at Dabiq.

The original scriptures suggest it's against the Romans, hence us, so that adds to their belief in antagonising the West.

All these actions therefore could be perceived as an attempt to reclaim their religion and the world they live - hence reclamation.

We have just spent twelve years turning a land that had one of the most secular regimes in the region into a version of hell. The Israelis have spent sixty years stealing the land from and then discriminating against the Palestinians, to the extent that most of them are in effect prisoners in a series of fortified enclaves, or are refugees. Us and the Yanks have either directly or indirectly helped to destroy almost every popular movement aimed at liberating local populations from tyrants. We have been very friendly with some of the very vilest people on earth for ages and despite them being behind - to put the best possible spin on it - the inspiration for all the fundamentalist Sunni terror groups.

Western policy towards the region has been a disgrace for years. It needs to be sorted out, urgently. Until it is, and especially whilst the nonsense that is Merkel's immigration policy continues, these sort of attacks will keep happening.
Brilliant ^^^ and frankly I won't argue because I can't. I am white and middle aged so my take on the middle east attrocities is probably very UK news biased....and frankly going to be a vastly different story to how the REALITY is. I won't pretend though that all would be lovely if the UK had open borders and our politicians didnt fancy oil anymore. Anyway....this has become far to adult for a friday nights tippy tappy... peace x

Word Of The Day, no question.

Makes as much sense as a Janet and John book.

Not your post mind.

Good post. It is worth noting that such movements have occured several times in the history of Islam, and they are probably one of the main factors in keeping them at such a low level of development compared to everyone else (this is despite almost all of the early work in an awful lot of scientific and mathematical disciplines being done by Islamic scholars).

The Norway shootings happened 5 years ago on the 22nd July - a sick tribute?

There have been some murmurings on social media that one of the attackers was heard shouting "[Poor language removed] foreigners", in unaccented German. It is a bit of a coincidence, though this would of course be a step up from anything the German extreme right have done in years.

may well be a coincidence but its 5 years today that Anders Brevik committed his right wing terrorist attack...

edit: sry didn't realise it had already been mentioned
