apparently reports in portugal we've bid £20m for william carvalho.
alternative to witsel who seems a right melt? or trying for both

There's no logical reason why we are slower than everyone else in securing signings.

Plus we've lost mainstay squad players due to retirement: Howard, Osman, Hibbert, Pienaar...they need replacing and urgently.

stekelnberg, davies, kenny/holgate/pennington and dowell.

They've all been replaced, these players will cover the workload those 4 did last season.

obviously we'll add a first choice keeper as well.

You say you want to see action yet are completely ignoring the firing of Martinez, attracting Koeman from a team with European football, and Moshiri's commitment to increasing his shareholding. We've also got the redevelopment of the Goodison exterior, the termination of the WHP plan almost as soon as Moshiri arrived, and work taking place on Finch Farm. If reports are to be believed Moshiri has also sunk a large capital investment into repaying debts.

As of yet, Lukaku and Barkley have been retained as well as the core of our better players. People are more than happy to believe Esk when he says Stones is going but not on any incoming transfers.

To try and claim nothing has changed from the Kenwright era is ridiculous. There is no way Koeman is here if Moshiri had arrived, no way. Martinez would be carrying on for another season. There would be no way Lukaku would be here. He'd have created noise to lower his price and we'd probably have sold. There'd be constant speculation over Barkley Coleman Mirallas maybe Deulofeu. Instead nothing is coming out at all.

I am certain there will be the headline grabbing action you are craving over the coming months but even the changes that have occurred already show that we have progressed away from the previous regime already.
Spot on mate !

I said he wants to manage Barcelona because that seems to be the goal of all ex Barca players who go into management - I dont know that for a fact but I think if you look at the list of world superpowers when it comes to Football Clubs Barca are in the top two and disputably no1. Why would that not be his aim? He has already had some big jobs but think if he does well here and gets us in to the champions league and competing for the league that is the type of thing that would draw the eye of the superclubs that we as of yet can only aspire to be currently.

Didn't RM get tipped for the Barcelona job after getting us to 5th......RK aim should be to get the best job possible but lets enjoy him before saying he want's the Barcelona job.....All managers would love to manage Barce, Real Madrid etc but let's see the results on the pitch and then worry about him leaving.

Who used the words "defenseless" and "inexcusable"?

Our rivals disagree that not signing anyone by 18 July is harmless. They've strengthened already because they appreciate the need for pre-prep time before the season kicks off. They may strengthen further still.

We've weakened, losing 4 senior players and replacing them with Southampton's 2nd-choice keep.

You can clearly see we're a bit behind right now?

Zatman, in a couple of his more hysterical posts.

I think the we want action and I expect this and that approach to football fandom is a nonsense.

That its nice to see actual events, and its great to get signings in early is without doubt but placing these timelines and demands on things as if the effect on our season is black and white is a bit ridiculous to me. But each to their own.

"The main piece of news is that we will be recruiting a very high profile and quality manager way beyond the expectations of what the media think we can attract, and that person will have very significant sums to deal in the summer months."

Aye...I have to be honest @The Esk this is quite hyperbolic. No one puts Koeman on that pedestal of Mourinho, Löw, Emery, Blanc, even Pellegrini and de Boer (tho' the latter only with Bergkamp & Stam included) were on a higher pedestal from the pool of potential managers we were all talking about.

Sure Pellegrini apparently didn't impress in the job interview, but Koeman has a lot to prove still. His record is ok-to-good...not great. He does seem a step up from Martinez and possibly Moyes too, but he's not the "very high profile and quality" manager who's "way beyond" media expecation.

So perhaps reign in the hyperbolic optimism a bit and let's all quietly wait for action. Hopefully it'll come soon and we can discuss real tangible things again.

Have you ever thought that's the reason he has stayed quiet. The club have told him in no uncertain terms that if he kicks his toys out of the pram he's staying because we won't get our target price. Same with Stones who also hasn't kicked up any fuss so far.

I'm more interested in them all signing new contracts and until they do I think they could still leave.

Just so you know mate, if it's my opinion I say it's my opinion. If it's information received from any of a number of sources then I pass on what I can.

I have said consistently since last Saturday I have no definitive idea of the timing of Martinez' departure. Yesterday at the match I was told it was definitely end of season, then 5 minutes later it could be Monday.

I've got to the point where it is actually not worth asking, it will happen when it happens. The main piece of news is that we will be recruiting a very high profile and quality manager way beyond the expectations of what the media think we can attract, and that person will have very significant sums to deal in the summer months.

Forget this season, it's been a complete write off. Just look forward to a very different future at Everton.

Sorry for vaulting this up and I am certainly not having a pop at the esk but for me when someone who obviously has inside information made this kind of statement I was jumping for joy.
Getting Koeman in my opinion was definitely not very high profile and considering that the league starts in under a month and we haven't signed anyone of note it doesn't make me think that we are going to have a very different future.

Many other fans, writers that I know and pundits were astonished 'little old Everton' got Koeman. Esk was right.

I dont dispute the fact that the fact that he is getting paid a shedload will have motivated him to leave Southampton but I also dont think he would have come if we were offering him 6 mill a year but a limited transfer budget. As someone alluded to earlier Koeman was in the last year of his contract he could easily have sat it out and then got more wages next year than we are currently paying him. I think the man is a winner and thats what he has come here to do and he has moved because he has a better squad already than he had at Southampton and there is the promise of more to come.

Just to play devils advocate, i dont think hes ever stayed at a club for 3 years and probably thought there was no way he could do as well in the 3rd year there
