The quote was 'a million % the Russian in by Christmas'.

Needs a massive pinch of salt but there is deffo something going on.

don't think it will be hard at all to sell the shares now, I think Kroenke would buy them at the drop of a hat to get full control of Arsenal.

As I've said ad nauseum, Kroenke does not need Usmanov's shares. I have checked Arsenal's Articles and there's nothing of significance that can't be achieved by ordinary resolution (requiring 50.1%)

Equally Kroenke is never going to allow Usmanov to walk away easily and become a competitor - Kroenke has completely neutralised Usmanov and he won't give that position up easily.

Lets make it clear, Usmanov and Moshiri got into owning shares to takeover a club, the plan at Arsenal has failed, they are not in it to sit back and allow others to do it, Usmanov wants his own club in the Prem.

Usmanov has been in this position since 2011. I'm aware of the rumours but people close to Usmanov say there's nothing in them, nor is there any chat in investment circles of a large block of Arsenal shares becoming available.

You can never say never but for me Usmanov is almost certainly not going to do what would obviously be a great thing for Everton.

There are a raft of other reasons which I have argued previously with you as to why I hold this view.

Mane on a good day is world class. On a bad day he is Peter Beagrie. Wanyama is 3 red cards a season. No ta to the latter, the former maybe but not at a stupid price. We could get Perisic from Wolfsburg for half that.
Peter Beagrie is one of my favourite Everton players ever.

Sign him up!

You know far more about this than me but didn't Kroenke buy some shares the other week? I don't think it was a lot compared to Usmanov's 30% but if he didn't need them, why did he buy them?

He bought 17 about 10 days ago. It's not in Kroenke's interests to allow small numbers of shares to fall into the hands of perhaps vocal dissidents of the way he runs Arsenal. There's growing supporter and some smaller shareholder unrest, so he'll have his broker sweeping up any shares as they become available.

Esk, while I agree with you about Kronke buying out Usmanov, and unfortunately agree with you about it being unlikely that Usmanov is coming to Everton, I don't understand why you say Usmanov is boxed in.

I would have thought that there would be interest in the Arsenal shares from outside, given the ever increasing profile and wealth of the premier league, and the fact that Arsenal are in a prime position to thrive over the next few years. Admittedly, that logic suggests he wouldn't want to sell, but as said before he may well have his own agenda.

I read an article a few months ago which explained how the Chinese government are determined to make China one of the Worlds footballing superpowers over the next 20 years. In the article it was suggested that one of the strategies for speeding this process along was for Chinese investors (usually state backed) to buy minority shares in some of the most successful clubs in Europe to learn how these clubs are run. The main examples I can think of are Man City and Atletico Madrid and the article said this has been a technique used in the past by Chinese investors in other industries. So to me if the 30% shares in Arsenal were to become available surely they would be snapped up as I don't think there are many better clubs to learn from than Arsenal.

So why is Kroenke still buying shares then (not just recently, he bought 2 shares last year, 2) if he doesn't need them?.

Is he duty bound to buy them?

"The two biggest shareholders in Arsenal Holdings are the American Stan Kroenke, who holds 66.64 per cent of the parent company, and the Russian-Uzbek Alisher Usmanov, who owns 29.11 per cent.

That means that under the official takeover panel rules, Kroenke must in due course make an offer for every available share in the club.

At Arsenal, it is a clear example of the majority shareholder stockpiling cash to pull off a full takeover of the remaining shares."

If he is duty bound, then Usmanov can sell his shares easily at a tidy profit and move on.

I've heard all you've said, and just like you think my views don't stack up, I don't think yours do either.

So why not Usmanov's shares if they became available? 30% in the hands of a band of various scattered vocal dissidents would be more detrimental to Kroenke than buying them up and hedging his bets against Everton surely?

Arsenal are a far bigger club than us at the minute so us going up against them for players wouldn't be that much of an issue? Take Mirallas for example, all we had to offer was regular football - surely Kroenke knows that players move to teams for reasons other then money.

Usmanov is a pipe dream, I'm happy with the Persian hero.

Going back to that list of city's signings in 2008 though, massive bonus points to anyone who remembers Glauber Berti, played 1 game for city and then went back into obscurity, never heard of him.
