Moyes dourness took over us, the entire perception from the media, other fans and our own fans of 'plucky little Everton' was down to him to serve his own ego. This club should under no circumstances think like that or be thought as like that
I don't disagree. I'm not defending Moyes, I just don't see why you think things have changed.
After we beat City in the home leg, Martinez said:
"We showed how far we have come since August. It shows what we have got in the dressing room.We are not getting carried away. We know we have a huge challenge in front of us and are looking forward to the second leg but the performance means more than just a win in the semi-final of the League Cup."
After the second leg he said:
"When you look at the two games we had with Manchester City - we played eye-to-eye and we got very close to getting to a really high level. We should take this as a real inspiration to achieve something special this season."
So basically the first one is him saying 'I know we might be low in the league table, but really we're getting better because we just beat city in a one off game. I am, however, going to immediately point out that we are unlikely to win the second leg, and I want you to remember just how good we were tonight when that happens'.
The second is him saying 'Yeah we lost but we gave it a good go, what more do you want from me? A couple of years ago we'd have come and defended the lead, not taken them on like i did, so wind your necks in'.
His positive language and spin appears to have blinded you to the fact that he's doing exactly the same as Moyes used to do. He's telling us that everything's good, and we should be happy with what we've got - he just does it with a charming smile and an exotic accent rather than being dour like Moyes.
