Moyes dourness took over us, the entire perception from the media, other fans and our own fans of 'plucky little Everton' was down to him to serve his own ego. This club should under no circumstances think like that or be thought as like that

It became vital to Moyes's own agenda that the notions of "plucky little" and "over achieving" were fostered around the latter years of his tenure here.

He knew he was Ferguson's "chosen one" and he kept a steady hand on the Everton tiller so that it appeared he had hit a glass ceiling and that Everton's lack of progress was nowt to do with him.

In this he was aided by his many friends in Fleet Street.....not to mention his friend and benefactor down the West End.

As long as he didn't balls things up here he was fine......Fergie's throne was awaiting his posterior.

And it showed in those latter seasons as we became totally becalmed.

Bobby has liberated us from that strait jacket if he has done nowt else.

Now both the fanbase and the press are screaming at the man for "under achieving" with a squad half made up with players Wee Davey had at his disposal.

That is why Bobby will always get a warm reception from this chap when he returns with another team in the future.

yep..martinez certainly was the manager we needed at that time and at 1st it worked, i just hope he's looked back at someone that started the ball rolling but wasnt up to getting us success in the league but that another manager did

Like the part...... When he returns with another team.

How is that any different to what Berto is doing right now, lauding horribly boring draws with Watford and Palace as "incredible"? Fact of the matter is, we are every bit "plucky little Everton" as we ever were under Moyes, in fact probably more so and with a vastly more expensive squad

One manager took us forwards, the other took us backwards. It can't even be up for debate, surely?

Arguably Martinez has put a lot of things in place which his successor will hopefully capitalise on.

The fact that he doesn't appear to have the necessary skills to finish off the job by turning a talented squad and the youngsters coming through is bloody annoying, but there are some things he's done very well, just not on the pitch very much in the last two seasons.

Really???? Please tell me your on a wind up????? Moyes took the club when it was on its knees and floating above the relegation zone and got us into the CL (although we were robbed) and consistently 5-8th each season on a minimum budget with players like Marcus Bent etc.. And this fraud has took us back to square one within 3 years with 2-3 outstanding young players, a 20+ season striker, 2 great full backs, more money to spend than any other manager.

Martinez should be sacked immediately!!!!!

Really......yes, really.

Wind up?

No.

That is my heartfelt opinion.

Just because people differ from you in their opinion, don't dismiss their opinions as "wind up".

But I make you right about Bobby needing fired today for the good of the club and to have more than a forlorn hope in the semi final ;)

If you can't see the difference between how Moyes got us in a comfort zone and was happy to stay there with absolutely no pressure put on him from either fan or press and a man who is struggling to keep his head above water as all guns are firing at him in the latter days of his tenure then I can't help you.

How is it? How? It's the most defeatist Everton team I've ever seen, the moment we go a goal down to a decent side we just fold. We still play for 0-0 draws away at the top sides, and nearly always get beat. There's nothing different, our manager is praising bore draws against Watford and Palace. How has our psyche improved? We still bottle big games as well, as evidenced by the League Cup semi final

Nope.

EL winners now go to the final qualifying round of the CL.

That is how important winning the EL would be to Liverpool.

Or any team that won it but finished outside their own league's CL places.

Sorry, came in half way through, thought you were talking about us and the FA cup ;)

Hey one thing leads to another though, finish 16th each season, win the FA cup, then Europa cup, then Champions League ;)

Hey if Leicester can win the league.. anything can happen.

And why is Martinez fighting for his job? Oh yeah because he's crap

They're not though. They certainly shouldn't be used to stop you sacking a manager who is failing dismally in the league.
Let's not bother next weekend lads. The Cowboy says it's not worth it. Sell your tickets.
I see both sides here but it'd be folly to put all our eggs in the cup basket.

I want us to win the cup no doubt about it, but it won't magically transform Martinez into a good league (and overall) manager.
