Moyes dourness took over us, the entire perception from the media, other fans and our own fans of 'plucky little Everton' was down to him to serve his own ego. This club should under no circumstances think like that or be thought as like that
It became vital to Moyes's own agenda that the notions of "plucky little" and "over achieving" were fostered around the latter years of his tenure here.
He knew he was Ferguson's "chosen one" and he kept a steady hand on the Everton tiller so that it appeared he had hit a glass ceiling and that Everton's lack of progress was nowt to do with him.
In this he was aided by his many friends in Fleet Street.....not to mention his friend and benefactor down the West End.
As long as he didn't balls things up here he was fine......Fergie's throne was awaiting his posterior.
And it showed in those latter seasons as we became totally becalmed.
Bobby has liberated us from that strait jacket if he has done nowt else.
Now both the fanbase and the press are screaming at the man for "under achieving" with a squad half made up with players Wee Davey had at his disposal.
That is why Bobby will always get a warm reception from this chap when he returns with another team in the future.
