Then I'll look up see a lemon and think oh, never mind, he's bans been lifted.

I think many posters have argued quite eloquently in defence of Martinez. In context. And that's the important word, in context, under the ambition or lack of, by the board, mediocrity and underachievement for a club of our stature has become the narrative, that even the media regularly puke out.

The context, landscape is changing. Supporters too aren't buying into the bullshit any more, especially after Leicester's season. There is never a guarantee of success but the ceiling has definitely been raised, which is only a good thing considering our motto and history.

That's an eloquent and reasonable statement but in my opinion the context is that he was provided with a solid base and backed considerably more financially than the previous manager and underperformed and that any criticism is well founded.

I agree it's entirely justified, but at the same time don't forget the other target. His appointment was a colossal mis-judgement by the board. Which finally revealed them for what they are. Guardians content to never plow any of their own money into the club but to appease the fans, don't get relegated. 40 point target and throw in the cup, that'll make 'em happy.

They seriously underestimated just how many Evertonians are no longer content to be also rans. The pride is coming from the supporters, the board, current or future, have to follow that lead.

I hate to break it to you but 14th isn't even midtable

We've slipped that low now

It comes across as knee jerk, but this really is how Villa started.

The rot needs to stop now. When you start accepting these crap finishes then you're in trouble. The likes of Lukaku leave and they're replaced with more Niasse type players and you've got the recipe for us going in the same direction as them.

That's just it. 2 seasons becomes 3 and it sets in until the inevitable.

I just don't understand the notion of giving him more time. To do what exactly? Take us further backwards?

His heart's in the right place but football's a ruthless industry and he's had more time than a manager at someone like Spurs would have had.
I don't think many supporters feel this way at the end of the season. Only BK is gushing. Hopefully, Mr Moshiri shows us some leadership and ambition.

Any club (except Everton obviously) who hired a manager who in 2 seasons took them 6/7 places lower than the previous 5 seasons in the name of a philosophy would quickly usher them out the door

He said that when mentioning Steve Bruce becoming new villa boss. Call me a cynic but a radio host dropping links at the start of a call in programme may not be the best and I like Stan.

Any other radio host and I would agree with you, wiggum.

But Stan wears his heart on his sleeve and I don't think he would use the tactics of Durham, Goldstein, Parry and their ilk.

I am not saying the story is true or untrue or owt, just that Stan believes whoever told him and is trying to scoop the pack by breaking it first.

I have some doubts. He won the league 5 times, but it's not a hard thing to do when you managing Ajax. He struggled in Europe and that's the worry thing.

We should aim higher.

I have to say it is not an appointment that would set my pulse racing.

And would he pepper the team with moody, go by Dutchmen?

Lord knows we have enough problems with our Belgian boys and their gobs :(

Please don't say that, I'll be having nightmares all night

This is what I wondered but didn't like to ask for fear of being labelled a grammar Nazi.

Has he left out a comma?

Or does he mean ......... (there is) No chance he is here next year.

That would mean he thinks Bobby will be gone soon.

But.

If he left out a comma and meant to say........No chance, he is here next year.

Then that is the stuff of nightmares for you :)

The problem is that Martinez is a nice bloke but risks going down the same road as Tim Howard, who despite giving us many years of good service, overstayed his welcome (no fault of his own due to not being dropped) and from his dip in form has soured his good will with a lot of the fan base.

Martinez risks doing exactly this, if he held his hands up and admitted he's not the right guy and parted ways, a lot of fans would wish him well, but I can't help but feel he'll drag this on and by the time our useless board act (that's if they do) he'll have angered the fan base further with poor results/chatting cap in press conferences etc.

I wonder if it wasn't windy that night would we have beaten Palace, finished 4th and gone on a rampage with Bobby slaying all before him. And would we had ever heard of Rik Wee.

The great imponderable.

I always say an Act of God robbed us of a CL place that season.

Palace were on a bad run then....by the time the match was played they were on a bit if a roll.

Beaten by an Act of God.....Everton that.
