Roberto Martinez discussion

Did you miss him against us? IIRC he caused us a few problems with his direct running

But I was rather 'refreshed'

to be honest i wasn't too impressed with any of them when they played us. Especially the japanese lad. thought on the day they looked like an average team we gave their goals to them out of context.

By the sounds of a red opinion on last night, may have been more of the same again!

I was pretty mad when Martinez signed and ee brought in Kone Robles and Alcaraz + didnt ship out the deadwood as soon as he arrived but then seeing how he setup the team and his focus on building a top attacking young exciting team ive gone the opposite way now and am really impressed in general with him -- others seem to have gone from positive to negative solely based on inconsistent results with a young side.

I think he deserves the chance to build his own team, thats all ive ever really said. Hes close now and in summer there will be 9 players out i think (as i listed in my best squad thread)....and he will have money to spend on transfers and wages.

If he keeps the players he wants together and adds pure first eleven quality at GK / CM /CF in the summer then im confident next season we will be pushing top 4.

The following season we will probably need to sign another CB to replace Jags and a forward to replace Kone...i think he deserves 2 more years.

I am looking at the level of quality and age of say Breel Embolo / Ruben Neves / Bernardo Silva types who are proven in europe, young and can fit his style...

With players like that coming in then over the next 2 seasons our stars will stay and be added to and we will look like a major force on paper to rival an arsenal type squad who have had a decade to gradually make additions whilst Martinez hasnt even had 3 seasons.

Im excited about the summer changes.

But there's every likelihood we wont lose the deadwood and will instead lose the young ambitious players

Until the end of next season, at the very least.

Question answered.

Even if he was to stink the place out and struggle to 40 points for the season?

He could also go on a superb run and win every game but highly unlikely.

Best way to work it out is to go on the seasons stats. We are getting 1.25 points per game which at the end of the season would see us get 48 points. Back to back lower than 50 points in a season for the first time since Walter.

It's funny how some are convinced that all will come good even after 4 seasons when the decent managers like Pochettino can clearly do it a lot quicker.

He's been stinking the place out for over 12 months to be fair.

if El Bob can't turn this around, don't know if this has been discussed before, but what about Pellegrini? Sounds like he's not just interested in the "big" EPL teams. Everton could be the type of place he'd be interested in given our young core.

Feel free to slate me, I'm just throwing this out there to get the vibe of the great GOT posters

I'd take him in a heartbeat. A proven winner and not someone who would be a gamble like our previous appointments.

The season is on a real knife edge at the moment, couple of wins we looking up, couple of defeats and its time to be nervous. The teams below are picking up points so its massively important we start doing the same.

Think he will be reviewed at the end of the season regardless - unless we do get new owners and they are unhappy straight away.

Regardless, Martinez has to have a hard look at himself after this season - a lot of the blame lays at his feet and he needs to really assess his shortcomings
