Ok, you want balance. Here, let's try balance:

We are fantastic to watch attacking. Playing some great stuff going forward. We are also shambolic at defending. Have been for 16 months.

Do you agree with that?

Talk about stating the obvious, I'll bet there isn't one poster on here who doesn't agree with that.

Surely the pros and cons run deeper than just that.

By that logic Mike Walker was treated horribly by us and also David Moyes was outperforming Ferguson in his first season so why did he get fired? Comparing Martinez to two of the greatest managers to grace the english game is ridiculous. The United board saw something in Ferguson that was clearly not evident in Moyes and probably LVG.

Think the difference now is a manager isn't allowed time to get it right because instant success is literally required ASAP. I think Moyes was sacked because he lost the dressing room, when that happens it's end off, you only have to look at what happened with Mourinho with all the talk of revolt in the dressing room.

I only am saying it that simply because Dave doesn't even acknowledge why there is discontent. There's never any mention of how far we've regressed defensively even tho even the staunchest against Martinez can admit about how far we've come on the attacking side.

Err, because we've got fans doing the same.
So a manager who broke the stranglehold on Scottish football with Aberdeen, whilst achieving in Europe gets time at UTD after a stuttering start, whilst Martinez get Wigan relegated has to be afforded the same time? Because he may also achieve relative success.. We all know Martinez has no chance of being sacked... because SAF achieved doesn't mean RM will.

You list Ferguson's pre United achievements Ian but ignore Martinez's achievements such as the FA Cup wins or rebuilding of Swansea, instead focussing on negatives only.

I thought this was supposed to be a be a balanced discussion.

I wouldn't be violently against it as analysis.

It's just good to see the baby isn't thrown out with the bathwater.

I think it was a bit more than a stuttering start for Ferguson at utd. Also, that 'stuttering' start would have probably seen Ferguson sacked this day and age. Martinez did get Wigan relegated but he did well keeping them up as long as he did under the financial restraints he had, also throw in the fa cup he won, something Moyes couldn't achieve in 11 years.

Also, agree, because SAF achieved doesn't mean Martinez will, but there is one huge advantage Ferguson had, money, and lots of it.
