His squad and he's getting the best out of them because they are set up to attack. Get another manager in and see Deulofeu with his wings clipped and Lukaku chasing down balls in the channels. It'll all fall apart and the same whingers wanting the manager out now will be bemoaning the fact that we're playing hoofball.

Actually Dave if there was new manager be fair it could be the opposite of the picture you have painted.

Right ok so if it's his squad and as you say " we play attacking football " does that mean we can't defend? Surely there's a balance and you have to start from the back. That's were you build the foundations

Why? The problem remains there. You mean one win can sort everything? No back to back league win this season may I remind you. Like I say he needs to get top 6 (Europa place)this season which is an indication to show he is indeed capable of providing stability to Everton, as a top tie PL club. I don't see how could you take any positiveity and pretend everything is ok should we finish midtable again this season. Great players like Lukaku and Stones will definitely leave if we don't achieve something special soon. We won't be able to keep them and build a team.
Why? Because you know as well as I do with a win we'd be a place or two up the table and those posters who are concerned now will be looking to kick on to Europe. That's why. It is the way of most supporters. Fickleness is part of the DNA.

Well if you want to break out of that mode you'll have to wait for an oligarch to pump hundreds of millions into this club.

The alternative is to point at the manager and wonder why CL football isn't on offer after a meagre net spend that's matched by giants like Stoke.

Or get some one in who knows how to attack when required and defend properly when required
THAT doesn't take Oligarchial millions, it just takes luck and or judgement
more chance of the hundreds of millions

*changes metaphors

Under Moyes we were a fighter could box just a little.
Under Martinez were are boxers who can't fight...and can't go the distance

I seem to remember the chorus for 10 years when we played at Anfield. Old Trafford, Emirates and Stmaford Bridge, 'Let's just go at them for once. Just have a go instead of sitting back'. No one can say that about Martinez, his teams have a go and don't fear playing anyone.

Our regime don't have any genuine ambition, they need a yes man. Bobby's never going to rattle any cages is he...

I think there is a possible contradiction at the heart of that sentence, GOT.

If the regime lacked any real ambition they would surely have cashed in on Stones when Chelsea were relentlessy pursuing him in the summer.

And if they did in fact want to cash in, then Bobby must have stood up, rattled their cages and said "No".

He's not going anywhere anytime soon.

As I've said for some time - a second consecutive underwhelming season and I'd want him gone. Last season was too soon, he deserved another crack.

I said last week the next 7 weeks are vital. Bobby this week said the next 8 weeks are crucial.

He's not wrong. He needs to find some consistency, and quick. This team is capable of top 4, and will flourish with confidence. We just need two or three wins in the bounce and we'll be set. Failing the manager getting that, I don't think we can bemoan Lukaku, Stones etc looking to leave in the summer. We need to demonstrate something.

We're also 3 games from a cup win.

I know last season I said review him in December, but we'd achieve nothing replacing him now - besides, it would never happen. Lets review him at the end of the season, if we finish the second half of the season as the first, I'd want him out.
The thrust of the current conversation is less toward ditching Martinez mid season...that just won't happen . But this is a Martinez thread and I'll tell you this : he's all at sea with this talent, he's out of his depth. @davek has ingenuous (naïve) belief, that RM will grow into the job...but davek's living in a football universe a generation in the past. We don't have time on our side. It's the sad reality of instant gratification life in these monied times. Everton FC is not a nursery for managers

Far from it. And given how we've been of late, I doubt we'll get much there, tbh. A win there changes sod-all for me. Just another releqation candidate beaten; no spin on it - that's how I'll see it. We're alright beating scumderland and villa....we should anyway ffs. But drawing with watford & getting turned over by loysturrr at home?

Yeah. Nice football hasn't been getting us up the table, has it? We've had that team all season long. Cup final? That tri-handled chamberpot that even a fourth division side can reach the final of? Gotta beat schitteh first - and that looks abar as likely as me bummin' a 25 year-old Raquel Welch on the international space station in 10 minutes time. Not interested in that until we play in it. We play the majority of our matches in the league - and that's what matters.

I can and I have, thanks. More fool you if you can't (Or more likely, refuse) to see there's zero killer instinct in that side. It's always 'jam tomorrow'...
If we beat Newcastle and then Stoke, you KNOW the mood on here will be party time.

That's why I dont take all the whinging seriously. It's utter kneejerkism.

I say again: 60+ point finish + a very good cup run = worthy season whilst the rebuilding continues apace.

...and you can bet your bottom dollar the board of this club will see it exactly like that. I wouldn't rule out a contract extension if those targets are hit.

Imagine if Crystal Palace had a £25-30 million goalscorer rather than Wickham they would be top 4, we have what they have in quality wingers and a creative midfielder but they have theirs built on a solid back 4.

Are people really going to tell me Dann and Delaney are better than Stones and Jagielka/Mori? It's simply down to defensive organisation and it's not good enough.

If we keep Stones he should move into def mid

How anyone can say Martinez is a good manager knows absolutely nothing about football, for a start, to be a good manager you have to get the defence midfield and attack organised, play consistently well and win more games than you lose or draw, he fails miserably at this, another thing you have to do is identify weaknesses in the squad and fix them, again he fails miserably, there is too many fundamental areas to management that he neglects and simply can not do, his philosophy is deeply flawed in the English game and will never be any different, it has not changed since his Wigan days, nothing has changed, the best we can ever hope for with this manager is mid table mediocrity and maybe get some luck and win a cup
