Tim Howard

I'm pretty scarred for the state of our defence right now tbh. Hopefully when Baines is fully fit we'll look better but from a stopping conceding stupid goals pov it's very worrying.

Howard made decent saves and we should be happy about that , but again for the goal that went it be was a disgrace. Is he scared of the football?

Does the team practice defending corners at training? How is it that we always look like conceding when the opposition has a corner but rarely look like scoring when we have one? We're not the biggest team but we have Barkley, Lukaku, Kone and two tall centre backs.

Even more then a Yarmolenko we really, really need a top keeper. Unfortunately I feel once Howard has gone the manager will put blind faith in Robles, and it will cost us.

The fans stopped showing him respect long before he stopped showing it to them. I don't know why you'd expect respect from someone you consistently refer to as "toilet".

We just started calling it as we saw it. He's been largely mince since his finest hour at the WC and we've been rightly questioning his place in the side.

It comes with the territory of being a pro-footballer, fans will have opinions on your right to be wearing the shirt.

He comes across at times, as if he's doing us a favour gracing us with his presence.

The fact is the woodwork did get in the way and Howard did make those saves, that's why he saved us from getting best.

Should give him man of the match then mate, made 3 decent saves that you'd expect most keepers to make, let in one that wasn't really his fault as he didn't come for it - although piss poor attempt to do anything when it did get knocked in, but remember the free kick we got for the phantom foul on him when Wickham just blocked him off easily and he did the most pathetic punch you will ever see a keeper do? what was that all about eh?

There's a big difference between criticizing a player's performance on the pitch and handing out the kind of abuse that Howard gets.

No, he was very poor last season. He has been above average since last season ended, although clearly vulnerable to crosses. Unfortunately, last season made up the minds of a lot of people so now they only see the goals he concedes and not all the saves he makes (only Pantilimon has made more saves this season, and he's conceded quite a few more goals).

You're American, aren't you?

Anyway - I disagree.

"Only Pantilimon has made more saves", Devil is in the detail, that's because Pantilimon has more saves to deal with - and Howard has had more efforts at him than most.

It's the save rate you look at, and Howard is poor.

Thousands recently voted in our polls on whether Howard should be dropped, 90% said yes.

Stats, stats and more stats. None are needed like, everyone can see he's not been good enough for a long time. We need better.

Did you notice what our defenders were doing whilst Palace were "floating" corners in or were you just to busy focussing on Howard to see?

i understand completely the mistake the defenders made.
But palace wouldnt of been floating them balls in if they didnt know are goalkeeper was staying on his line.
Its a goalkeepers job to set up that 6 yard box when defending corners

Clutching at straws mate. Every keeper does that when they want a free out.

It seems like every little thing Howard does gets analysed in a way that makes it seem bad. Made 3 great saves? Yeah, but every keeper should make them saves. Wins a free out for an infringement? Yeah but his punch due to that was poor. Conceeded a goal due to poor defending? Yeah but that's Howard's fault too.

This is all whilst Mori is considered the saviour when he has been even more dodgy than Distin ever was for us.

His save rate is actually quite good this season (75%). That's what infuriated me about that article, which rightly said he was terrible last season but then completely ignored how much better he is this season.

It's an internet forum, mate, and people will vent in extremes. I don't think many of us think Howard is actually completely useless, but it's a build up of frustration because many believe Howard should have been replaced some time ago. We can all see we have an exciting and promising young team and Howard is the weak link.

Look at it another way, most of us would expect Everton to finish in at least the top 8, but have we got one of the top 8 keepers in the league? If you list all the first choice keepers in the PL (including those who've been injured, but would otherwise be first choice, such as Forster at Southampton) I think even the Howard apologists would have trouble disputing that at least half of them are better than Howard (more in my opinion).

Ok then lets analyse instead the things Howard doesn't do?

Doesn't command his box, doesn't come for anything in the air, doesn't make himself big and instead goes to ground making it easy for a striker against him, doesn't distribute well, doesn't distribute fast enough, doesn't make the correct decision a lot of the time. and maybe the biggest doesn't - he doesn't give the defenders or any team-mate of his any confidence whatsoever.

And who on earth is trying to say Mori is the saviour - it's different saying he has for a new player to this league thrown in after a month or two made a decent start which is fair, Howard has been here for ages mate and he is regressing at an alarming rate from a pretty average level to begin with.

But yeah i think it's fair to instead blame Stones, Mori, Jagielka, Distin, Galloway, Baines, Coleman etc rather than the ever present Howard

Wasn't hard to get better than the worst in the league, no?

I'd wager that at least a few teams whose back up keeper we would have here in a heartbeat ahead of Howard as well mate Begovic, Ospina, Valdez just off the top of my head
