Tim Howard

He is an appalling goalkeeper.

He costs us points far too many points. Robles needs a chance, I thought thats how football and selection policies worked.

For Palace's goal, as a team, we were all over the place. You could blame four or five players.

Firstly, Barry created confusion in the first place. Funes Mori was going to mark Dann, but Barry took over and was too busy instructing Funes Mori to mark Jedinak, so had his back to the ball when the corner was taken. Kone and Barkley were also close enough to challenge for the header.

Secondly, Howard should really have come out for the cross. The corner was floated to the edge of his 6 yard box, not whipped in at pace, and hung in the air for a long time. You can't expect defenders to win every single header in the box, so the keeper has to come and claim wherever possible.

Thirdly, the header wasn't a powerful one and was at chest height smack in the middle of the goal. Howard didn't save it because he'd started to move to his right, assuming that Dann would head it into the corner. Apart from his fear of crosses and poor positional sense, he's now started to guess where the ball's going to make up for his declining reflexes, just as he did for Zabaleta's goal against City and two of the Man U goals.

Howard wasn't the only one at fault for the goal, but he was at fault.

Without Howard making some very smart saves last night we'd have been beaten convincingly.

Yup, and without the woodwork getting in the way we'd have won convincingly! Fact is most of the goalkeepers in the Division would have made those "very smart saves" last night, but what is also true we currently have a goalkeeper who remains rooted to his line when the ball is in the air in his six yard box then does his starfish impression when it inevitably hits the back of the net, and it keeps costing us! Unfortunately I fear it will cost us again and again during the season as it has done on at least four occasions already this season. Mikey F and others are absolutely right, he needs dropping and Robles given a run of games, then it needs sorting out properly at the end of the season as no-one is going to let a decent keeper go in January!

The fact is the woodwork did get in the way and Howard did make those saves, that's why he saved us from getting best.

The kopite behaviour from some of our fans recently has been absolutely embarrassing. Under every status or tweet there is absolute hammering criticism of Howard, a player who demands much more respect for his service and performances over the years for us. Last night he was great and should take no fault for their goal, which was down to terrible defending.

Why should I respect him? He clearly has no respect for the fans.

He's been very poor since last season.
No, he was very poor last season. He has been above average since last season ended, although clearly vulnerable to crosses. Unfortunately, last season made up the minds of a lot of people so now they only see the goals he concedes and not all the saves he makes (only Pantilimon has made more saves this season, and he's conceded quite a few more goals).
