That's because we haven't played many of those lower half keepers yet this season. Stekelenburg, Myhill, Mignolet, and Fabianski are the only keepers we've played that aren't in that top tier I mentioned above. We didn't test Fabianski at all, Mignolet had his best match of the season, and we scored three each against Myhill and Stekelenburg. If Howard gets outplayed by Pantilimon and Adrian in November, I'll change my tune, but I'm not going to base my opinion of Howard on how well he matches up against De Gea or Hart.

Fair enough. Comparing keepers is a difficult thing to do anyway.

A maybe generous 4.

For everyone saying "there aren't many better" or "goalkeeping is poor at the moment", from the Premier League alone I'd have: Courtois, Lloris, Hart, Cech, Mignolet, De Gea, Krul, Pantillimon, Forster, Schmeichel, Foster, Adrian, Fabianski, Valdes and Begovic ahead of him all day.

Makes the impossible save look easy and the easy save look impossible. Gets beaten too often from distance and at his near post for my liking. He's tailing off IMO.

How many out of that list have you seen play this season?

Eh? They've all played football before this season, you know. Which we're only 9 games into.
So let's look at some of the ones you say you'd prefer based on past performances, then. Valdes hasn't played a full match in a year and a half and didn't even make the substitute's bench at United when De Gea was in exile. He's done. Fraser Forster has a broken kneecap and won't play this season, so preferring him to Howard seems odd, to say the least. Ben Foster tore his ACL and won't be able to play again until at least December, so another odd choice. Begovic has been dreadful for Chelsea this season, but I'll concede that if you only look at last season you might prefer him to Howard. As for Pantilimon and Schmeichel, that's just baffling. I don't rightly know why you would think they're better than Howard, considering the way both of them leak goals.

A very strange thing to say indeed.

I'm not suggesting I'd have them in goal instead of Howard when they're injured.

And Begovic has been very good this season, by the way. I won't argue your other points too much as they are actually valid. I don't massively rate a few in that list so fair enough.
