Tim Howard

I just love you guys...

Bobby is looking like a top manager again, Rom is scoring regularly, Ross isn't being a waste of Space, McCarthy nullified the biggest threat the RS have, Naismith scores a hattrick against City, Kone's been playing really well and McGeady and Kev haven't been getting the games to piss people off, who can we legitimately fume at now?

Yeah! it's back to Tim's turn

It would be funny if it wasn't true
Yes but it is true and certainly not funny 2 goals in 2 games from free headers inside the six yard box whilst Tim stands there having a little chat to himself. In reality the points on the board could be so much different If the rest of the team hadn't bailed him out AGAIN.

And yet in the Summer nobody was saying that replacing Tim was anywhere near a maximum priority, but now all the Keyboard Kloppmiesters are saying it definitely should have been.
Everything is easier with hindsight isn't it.
I think that's a bit revisionist actually. Most people on here wanted a No. 10 first and foremost but after that it was mostly shouts to replace Tim.

You're right that it was a free header mate. A free header for Barkley. If you look at the reply, there is not one Liverpool player within a space covering about 5 yards where Barkley completely misses the ball. McCarthy and Naismith were also within that space where Barkley is nodding at Oxygen.

No I have been a critic of TH since he undeservedly came straight back in the team after Robles kept 3 clean sheets, and went on to have a very poor season the fact the club gave him a 3 year contract extension was imo a mistake as his age is catching up on him Positionally he is poor , and as for corners in the six yard box he is stuck to his line I have advocated that for 12 months -
Whether Robles is an ideal replacement I am unsure as he has not had a run of games - RM was at fault to drop him when he looked quite good in those clean sheet games, on return TH was in very poor form improved this season , but imo back to his cowardly ways on coming out for a simple cross inside his six yard box he had a clear run to catch or punch the ball - its a major flaw in his game proved to me yesterday he looks scared to come out with his hands he should dominate his area not rely on anyone in the six yard box to do his job!!

Personally i thought Howard was at his worst at the start of last season. While he was far from perfect, I actually thought he was better when he came back in to the side (which was in february by the way, not 12 months ago). You're right though, he's clearly on the wane. And he wasn't particularly brillaint to start with, that's a big problem.

Also Robles is awful. Absolutely awful. Really, really, shockingly awful. Like, worse than me.

Spot on but Barkley is one of us so the buck gets passed onto someone else.

Howard didn't cost us points at all on Sunday. The way Everton gifted corner after corner to Liverpool was only going to end one way. They we're there for the taking on Sunday, 3 past Chelsea, 3 past a Pulis West Brom, 3 past Southampton, we easily should of got more on Sunday, yes we got one, and maybe that should of been enough, but that goal they got was a gift from the whole side, not just one person.

Deulofeu lost the ball far too easily in the other half, ok the pass to him wasn't great, and they got a corner, great tackle from Mori for that BTW, they hardly had to work hard to make that goal from the back. There is a bigger picture to be looked at than just Howard on that goal.

Wow! Martinez praises four players yesterday in the Derby per Sky Sports.

Is there a disconnect?

He's hardly likely to slate his own player mate. In the same way he said McAleney has a future here when he blatently doesn't.

We all know Martinez rates him as a keeper, it's just the vast majority of Evertonians would like an actual goalkeeper in nets at some point in the near future as it's been a long time since we had one.

I'm not so sure. Perhaps upping his trade value then?

Nah an upper 30's keeper (forget how old he is 37 is it?) doesn't have much of sale value these days sadly.

Martinez has never said a bad word about Howard that I can remember, even when he was really bad last season. Nothing wrong with that though I don't think. Not a fan of publicly slating own players.

Martinez is just giving praise to the veterans of his defense for not allowing a goal in open play.

Personally I think we overloaded on defensive minded players and couldn't link from back to front without hoofing the ball constantly.

Howard "should" have come for that ball but Barkley shouldn't have missed it either and Naismith also seemed to mis-judge the flight as he moved out of position behind Inge. I saw a view of that corner from the goal post and it had a lot of bend on it. It didn't look like it was going where it ended up. That being said, Howard is being paid to know all the corner kickers and should have recognized that it would land 3 feet in front of him.

Bottom line, Howard is still our best option. He's a good shot stopper, works well with our back line and is pretty good at passing around the back. I think we need to get an upgrade for Howard soon but we would shouldn't just pick up anyone off the scrap pile. We need a young, strong, steady presence back there. That could cost a lot of money.

don't think the bend matters, you would think a keeper would compensate for it and be able to tell it was going to bend from an early stage. all corners do!.

the fact is he could have reacted a split second before it hit ings head and still saved/claimed the ball. was nothing to do with his reactions though, he's never been good at decision making from corners.

also, he used to be a good shot stopper. if we're taking the spurs match away how many has he actually saved this season? he's let in more than he's saved and that was the case last season.
