John Stones transfer saga

Daily Express just now:
Man Utd in stunning Chelsea hijack with Phil Jones on offer for Everton star John Stones
MANCHESTER UNITED will attempt to hijack Chelsea's deal for John Stones by offering Phil Jones in exchange, according to reports.

Would be funny of Chelsea don't get him after all this, dont want Jones, or him to go either, but even so.

But what would Stones gain by agreeing to it? Doesn't make any sense. In fact, he'd actually be losing money.

Felli was asking to leave, yet wasn't handing in a request.

So what is it? Stones wants to leave? Or doesn't he want to leave? If he doesn't want to leave, then why would he go along with what the board supposedly want and be made to look bad, whilst losing money too.

Handing in a transfer request just states that he's willing to forgo his annual bonus from Everton. It doesn't mean there's any obligation to sell.

There was a piece from D̶a̶v̶e̶ ̶K̶i̶t̶s̶o̶n̶ The Secret Footballer earlier about this, just pointing out that Chelsea will have offered terms to Stones' agent which ensure those sums will be more than covered.

The timing of Stones' TR is just bizarre.

Why is it bizarre mate?

It leaves us with 5 days to reinvest forty million pounds. This isn't possible, so the board will keep the money and we'll never see it again.

Not bizzare at all. Completely predictable.

Well I don't think we are going to ever be in that position (as Lukaku suggests). Certainly not under this board.

What would be most disappointing about Stones is that it's an acknowledgement of that. Even if we get a great bunch of young players together we will not fight to hold them together. Not only that, we won't even hold on for much of a premium.

If every year we sell a player for £40M that we bought for £3M, and buy another one, we will have extra money coming in. That seems like a premium to me. The problem isn't that we sell young players, it's that all the funds are not reinvested, and this late in the window, it will be hard to buy anything reasonable.

Still doesn't make any sense. Why would he forgo his loyalty bonus if he's not pushing for a move? He'd still get the same wages from Chelsea.

Thing is we are not going to find them players now that we have Roberto, Moyes could pick them out but no way Bobby can.

It means he will move if the club are willing to sell him. I think he wants to move. I would want to move if I were him. Doesn't detract from his willing to play for Everton in anyway.

Chelsea will pay him more money. He's as talented as Cahill/Zouma so why does everyone assume he won't play any football there; he's clearly good enough.

Seeing as the smoke and mirrors game keeps getting pulled up - is that UTD article just a ploy to drive the price up and scare Mourinho?

It certainly is in ManU's interest to drive up the price, and pretend to hijack the move. Everton could send them a few quid later on to thank them for making Jose pay top dollar. ManU have so much cash, and Stones is so rare that I wouldn't be surprised if they do this to drive up the price, and just think about bringing him in too.

I'm not there tonight, but I would find that very hard.

Applaud him for handing in a transfer request which will leave us with one established central defender and little time to replace him?

To me, that's applauding him for dropping us in it. Irrelevant anyway, he's not going to be playing.
True but I'm not shocked that he wants to go. He will go. Maybe not this year but definitely before the start of next season. Timing has pissed me off but as I say, i dont think it will make a difference because we won't sell.

With Ivanovic's rapid decline he'd probably play a bit as RB as well.

To many instances of 'late transfer requests' ? Name a few...more than sStones and Lescott, and possibly Arteta?

Shouldn't Stones, Arteta, Lescott be enough? All late transfers.

Kenwright is a fine negotiator and in recent years and has managed good deals for players who've never hit their heights after playing at Everton. Rodwell and Pienaar never hit the ground running at Citeh/Spurs, and Arteta is arguably the only success after leaving Goodison.
