John Stones transfer saga

If you're going Barnsley tonight and Stones is playing, whatever you do don't boo him. Give him a great reception, because he deserves it. He's been unbelievable since he has arrived and is the best talent I've saw since Rooney. He could be playing for Barca in 5 years time. I can't really blame him for wanting to leave because we all expected it soon enough, maybe just not 6 days before the window ends. I still can't see us selling him after Martinez's comments. Let's hope he stays, gives it his all and doesn't end up joining Chelsea (or anyone else in the league).

The timing of the request has pissed me off, but I can't see it making any difference.

I hope we reject the request as I want him to stay, but what if he stays and doesn't want to play or try anymore? I mean I've lost most respect for him now anyway but is there any point keeping him around in that circumstance.
He can't really afford to do that at his age tbh.

Not only would it guarantee he won't feature at the Euros in the summer, it would also hamper his development, and hence his chances of securing a move in the future.

It's not a bad move for Stones though.

Regardless of what you're telling yourselves, the boy is a special player. He will be in that first team very regularly, will be earning more money and playing in better competitions.
He has very little loyalty to Everton (we pinched him from Barnsley on deadline day, after all), so he's different again to Rooney/Barkley/Baines and co.

My main gripe is the timing. Everything out of the club has been that he's happy to stay, and now he's pushed a request through with a week to go - that seems fishy to me. I know little of the lad, but I'm very doubtful he would intentionally leave us in the lurch like this. If he wanted out, they should have had that discussion a month ago and sorted a deal beneficial to everyone. But if Everton are going to say he's not for sale all along, to sell him now is criminal.

The club needs to show some balls, one way or the other. We've been dictated to all along, and it looks to have backfired. Remember when we came out publicly and slammed United for the Fellaini/Baines bid? What's happened to that? Make a call, but make it now, and put some conviction behind it.

See what your saying but in a years time it would be an even better move. We all agree that at Everton he is not under so much pressure and is allowed to make mistakes (and he does) because its part of his learning curve. Will he be given that leeway at Chelsea. His mistakes at Chelsea will be under the microscope and be exaggerated greatly and that in itself is a massive pressure. Here that would be classed as learning from his mistakes but Chelsea will drop him with no hesitation. Just think it might be too early for him to move to Chelsea. He has the class to succeed at Chelsea but just feel its a big risk.

Given he has four years left on his contract, and there is less than a week to go in the window, I think we should turn down the request. But, speak to him and say at the right price we'll let him move next year.

That gives Martinez and the board plenty of time to work up a plan for the cash next window. I don't want them sitting on it (Where's the Stones money etc), or spending in a rush.

He seems a level headed enough sort that he will be able to carry on playing and performing even if we say no.

Clearly he isn't mate...

I'm not there tonight, but I would find that very hard.

Applaud him for handing in a transfer request which will leave us with one established central defender and little time to replace him?

To me, that's applauding him for dropping us in it. Irrelevant anyway, he's not going to be playing.

Not including the Mori money assuming that's from the TV deal, say Stones does go for £35 mil (disgraceful sum) 15% leaves us with £30 mil to spend.

If we don't spend atleast £40 mil after any potential Stones sale then their is something wrong as we should have money for a playmaker signing regardless of a potential sale of Stones (wouldn't hold my breathe)

Time will tell but I think you will find there isn't any money till someone is sold meaning either the end game was always going to start when JS put in a transfer request and the club will be able to say no choice but as for him not getting his loyalty bonus my understanding is that it became payable on 7 August ( the anniversary of him signing his latest contract) and is due to appear in his wages at the end of August. That will have to be paid even if he does now leave

Although he probably , if he does leave in this window, forfeit any % of the fee from Everton that will almost certainly feature in his signing on fee which will be a factor that will reduce the fee paid by any new club.

Another thing that needs to be factored in is that 5%( I think that's the correct %) of transfer fee is paid to the PFA that money along with a similar % from all transfer fees is how professional footballers pensions are funded

As a side note to this debacle - isn't Chelsea's public pursuit of Stones technically illegal? Why haven't we been to the FA or whomever about it yet? I'd rather sell him to Liverpool than Chelsea now after the way that arrogant sack of a club has gone after him.
