John Stones transfer saga

As usual we are made to look stupid as fans for thinking people care about the club anywhere near the way we do. Stones didn't grew up as an Everton fan so is there anything to complain about? Well, he is now already a very rich young lad who is doing a job most of us would love to do for next to nothing. A cliche but true. He will be England captain I am pretty sure of that. Ambition? Does that really mean taking the easy option and collecting medals at a club that can just throw money at any problem? Maybe ambition means taking a challenge on that isn't so easy to achieve. He wouldn't be doing this while struggling to make ends meet. To think we should worry about the lad being unhappy here is pretty insulting.
There is the possibility that this is out of his hands. That the club want him to go. There is also a possibilty that a young player is tied into so many prepared deals with agents and sponsors now that they are not making their own decisions. They really are just commodities as soon as they sign up. The horrible media spectacle and arrogance from Chelsea would make me think this is at least partly true.
The club could go a long way to proving the first is not true and the second is something that we can do something about. Refuse to sell. See what happens this year. Stones won't starve and won't wreck his career. A player who isn't loved by the fans is hardly unique and maybe it will help Stones grew up even more.
If we do sell, then maybe it really is time to hit clubs where it matters. In their pockets.

One day I am sure that there will come some form of consumerist action in which the paying fan/customer takes a club(s), connected org's/agents/the FA to task and wins. It might seem a fanciful notion but so would the idea of the freedom of movement and association of player’s pre Bosman.

As has been mentioned by others in relation to other forms of action it would seem that a group movement would have the greatest impact but as these things tend to do it will probably start with a 'lone wolf', one disgruntled fan that is so upset and aggrieved at the actions of the likes of Chelsea, Stones Agent and even Everton that they end up at the IFO and get compensated. Once that happens and the customers of these clubs start demanding money back and the like they will face being held to account and things might well just become slightly more tolerable.

On that note if you have complained to the FA or whoever over this saga (or others football issues) and are not happy you can escalate the matter to The Independent Football Ombudsman http://www.theifo.co.uk/about-us.html

The Euros next year is the clincher for me.

Make him stay and make him play.

He will need to be focused and put together the best season he can so as to be England's starting centre back next summer.

Gareth Southgate talked yesterday about players breaking into the full England set up and yes I know he isn't the manager but the clear point he made was that it is less likely that a player ,who isn't playing Eureopean Team football, to make that next step

He agreed that they will need to play at a clubs a regular basis to get into the under 21s but to cement a place in the full international team they will need to test themselves against better teams ie CL and face competion for their place in the starting 11 at their clubs
Stones is far from guaranteed a starting place at the Euros and my guess is that in a limited squad in terms of the number of players you can have he quite possibly is number 5 in the pecking order for the 4 CD berths

I'm not a Board apologist and I detest this situation. But as far as I can tell this whole 'Stones has submitted a transfer request' thing has evolved 'according to Sky sources'. No one - Everton, player, players agent, Chelsea has come out and confirmed it. Every other media outlet has picked this up as fact. Has anyone ACTUALLY established it as fact.

Not even a hint of source close to Stones malaky, just a reports of "we can confirm". Ok, who?

Stones leaving is NOT a shock. He is young and ambitious and will not win anything staying with us. He has already been here long enough to realise the board is in no condition to seriously invest to make us regular contenders for honours.
He wants to win medals. Good luck to the lad.
The only question was when would he leave?
Luckily, we know we can trust Everton to already have lined up replacements....I was doing well until then.

Everyone needs to calm down and stop blaming the board. Look at it from Stones view. He's 21 in the last 10 years Chelsea have won the league, FA cup, champs league and others. So to him Chelsea are a big club. To everyone who's over 25 there not, they are just a rich club who can't fill their stadium with fans. Who have brought success nothing more, they havnt earned it like United did.
He's not an Evertonian so why wouldn't you leave?
To say the board made his is rubbish. I'm no fan of the board mind you.
I agree with this on the whole except that there should be agents, advisors, friends pointing out the fairly recent history of clubs who run in the manner Chelsea do and how they are make and break for young players. Generally break. He is not an Evertonian but he has been made rich and happy at this club. And he has a challenging career ahead of him something that a young professional should want.

Formally handing in a transfer request is a game changer, especially right at the end of a window with little time for Everton to recover from it.

He stays: first disastrous error he makes = he'll be slaughtered. And rightly so.

Theres no future here for him. He's gone.

Rumour has it that he actually handed in the request late last week.

Martinez turned him down and told him his stance.

He then played against City, and, while he didn't have the greatest of games in an Everton shirt, he didn't exactly play badly did he.

So, if this is true, it means that either the agent (my guess) or the club have leaked the story now. Really can't see it from a club point of view - even with my cynical hat on.

Just a rumour, but there's a few people I trust saying it.*

I think the complaints about the press have certainly made them tone down in some circumstances. Chelsea clearly do not care about what anyone thinks.
I wasn't aware of a football ombudsman but have found when I have had issues with companies in the past that just mention an ombudsman and their attitude changes.
What I feel would be good whether it is a group action or not for now would be a press campaign. We know the outlets that would not touch it but this may make it even more appealing to any genuine independent outlet.

Browning will be fine to cover if indeed Stones doesn't play tonight/Saturday. I've got no worries about Browning as he has the pace to recover what looks like lost causes. If we do sell Stones, take the time that we do have to get the best possible replacement in.

No one's mentioned hibbert at centre half.

But back on topic and there is something not right with this situation as many have already said.

It stinks of the board. Past history reflects that.

transfer requests at the end of August
Rooney
lescott
Arteta (3 mins before window closes, don't see a penny)
Fellaini (about 10 mins before window closes)

There's probably more but it's early and half asleep. Someone from the club needs to come out and confirm or deny the 'sky source'. The same people who have said we'd signed Yarmolenko.

Take into account stones' comments from pre season, it doesn't add up.

To be honest I don't know who to blame or what the actual truth is and unfortunately we'll never know, even long after he's been sold we'll still be scratching our heads.
Apart from Hibbert being crocked his career is over?
