John Stones transfer saga

What a farce. Transfer list him to keep him happy and name our price of >£50m, if anyone wants him they can buy him, but at our valuation imo, and it has to go through in the next 48hrs.

Aye forgot about this - that is option two.

Either way, we as a club have to control the situation a bit or we just look utterly foolish.

I have no bitterness towards Stones,my own opinion is that chelsea made an offer the club refused, they came back again, and
Stones has asked if he can talk,Everton again say no unless a certain price is reached, board then tells Stones they are willing to listen
if a transfer request is made
Stones would be stupid not to go,we have a club with no vision,no plan and no hope of challenging any time soon

Theres a couple schools of thought on this-

1) we refuse to sell and try and get another year out of him in the hope he performs like Suarez did for them when he was forced to stay and hope in the mean time he opts to stay on.

2) We sell as quickly as possible to the highest bidder with a bit of time to reinvest with a few signings.

Im not sure which way it would go for Stones if he was forced to stay...

The Euros next year is the clincher for me.

Make him stay and make him play.

He will need to be focused and put together the best season he can so as to be England's starting centre back next summer.

We can say to Stones in the meantime, if they really want you as much as they've been saying, they'll pay what you're worth to us, your true market valuation.

That should have been ongoing before he handed his request in, no ?

Fair comment, but you can only react to a situation. I'm sure RM was selling him the story all along - as I've said you can't imagine he hadn't seen the potential that Stones would be tapped up this window, but you can only have the real conversation (the one you hope you don't have to have) once the trigger has been pulled. If RM emerges today with his arm around Stones saying 'we have agreed he will stay and play', that will be good enough for me that Stones will be entirely professional about it.

Unfortunately the chances of this actually happening is a different question, and I'm not too confident personally that even the brown shoe shuffle will work its magic this time....

I think the board is handling this just right.
They have always maintained the player is not for sale.
In the next day or so Chelsea will bid again and the bid will be rejected with the note being sent for the fourth time that the player is not for sale.
Chelsea should be afraid of the Manchester teams getting involved and strangely that is still where I think he will finish up.

You would hope (if it's true) that there will be some sort of statement from the club way before tonight's game.
What worries me is that the next thing we'll hear on this from the club will be that they have agreed a deal with Chelsea. Can't see them commenting on it unless it's to say they've rejected the request and the longer the silence the more I think that won't happen.

Fully agree mate - the only thing I would change is to suggest that rather than telling him he's staying, RM would want to persuade him to stay - that's his style. May not make an ounce of difference to the outcome, but I just think that's how RM is playing it.

His London based agents, with their other Chelsea players on the the books will working equally as hard.

I understand the logic mate, but there really is no way back for someone who hands a transfer request in. You could say Suarez over there did it, but he was a goal machine and hero worshipped. Stones is a defender prone to costly errors. Can you see him being forgiven this season if he stays and we're shipping goals at the rate we have since last season?

His last game for Everton was against Man City. Absolutely no question in my mind.

I do think he'll probably go now, but it'd send out a strong message that we're no mugs if we stood our ground.

And there is a way back. Rooney did it, as you say Suarez did it. I understand the point that they were star players, but you can't say just because Stones is a defender he's not one of the best prospects or players in our squad. Of course he is. The lad oozes class. And he had done off the field as well until this (and I stress, reported) request.

Let's hope it pans out best. Tell the player we'll revisit the situation in 12 months time, when lets face it we were probably always gonna sell anyway. It's been a horrible saga this. Mourinho is a total twit - fits that club. But my main problem isn't with Chelsea, its the consistent media hype and speculation. Stones has been told by pretty much every news outlet that he's been at Stamford Bridge all summer!

Still, the only way back in the slim chance he does stay would be to perform how he has been doing and continue to improve. Fans have short memories when it comes to players. I'd be happy for him to go in a years time with our blessing and £40mil to spend nice and early in the window. To do it this late shows a nativity and immaturity that I (and many others) thought Stones was above.

As for Chelsea's next bid. I'd take £40mil or £25mil and Zouma. You want him that badly, then pay up. We're in control still, whatever people may think. It's whether we use that control to our advantage.

I see this from the angle of us not him. I dont care what he thinks. He's a player we gave a massive break to and worked hard to get him where he is right now.

The only person Everton supporters should have any empathy with right now is Martinez. He's the one been told by a player who stated in July he was delighted to be at Everton...then in the last week or so he's put the man who brought him through right in it.

I have contempt for Stones. He's not solely to blame, but he is to blame nevertheless.

He needs punting asap. No place for that sort at this club.
