The Absence Of Pienaar & Finding A Like For Like Replacement

I don't want an inverted left winger to replace Pienaar. I want a player who will cross left footed and first time, which will be to Lukaku's strengths. Same on the right except right footed. At least then our full backs can stay back sometimes and allow more of the central players to burst forward so we aren't as predictable. I'd keep Pienaar next season as this will give us options in our tactics.

Why mate? I think we need a player who looks to cut inside and, when appropriate, gives the ball quickly to Baines on the left for him to cross.

Having a pacey, direct winger on the left totally nullifies Baines as an attacking 'force'. I don't think there are many better crossers than Baines in the Premier League.

Last season, with Mirrallas and McGeady on the left, we rarely gave Baines the ball because they our wingers are all typical mavericks - more concerned with beating a the full back than delivering a quality cross which, and I agree with you, Lukaku would thrive on.

That's why Osman made a difference, that's why Pienaar makes such a difference, because these two players actively seek to get Baines in decent crossing/advanced positions. Pienaar is the better of the two because he can also see and execute subtle through balls which the above mentioned mavericks either dont see or dont want to play.

I havnt given up on Pienaar by a long shot, he had a bad season with inuries, but fit and a good preseason still a very good effective player for us. we hav a lot of vairence in wide positions now and if Lennon and Del come in dont think we need anythign else, Cleverly can play invertidilt as well.

The lad came back in tears speeking to moyesy bout that silly mistake he made leaving the club, brings a tear to my eye when u have a player with that much love for our club!! cracking little player aswell, one thing moyesy was, was great in the transfer market!!

Tom Cleverley
Successfully proving he can play while inverted.

sorry.

His best days are surely behind him.

If he still has a year left though may as well keep him for the bench and look to bring in a decent replacement with the money raised by the impending departure of Mirallas, especially as we are going to have enough on the right hand side with Deulofeu and McGeady or maybe Lennon.

Don't see Oviedo as anything other than a full back so he's not the answer.

Januzaj? Nowhere near Pienaar's level yet but at least he's not just a straight line runner like Lennon or even Deulofeu to some extent. If we want better you're into your Mata and Silva territory unless you pick up a cast off from a big team (Kagawa) or s complete unknown (like Pienaar was).

Did you see the difference he made against swansea, hes still one of our best players when fully fit.

Roberto loves him, and touch wood hes seems to be nice and healthy going into preseason, hopefully we get another season from him

60k a week for a kid who has had no more than 5 good game behave, we can't waste money like that

Yep let's hope so...he is classy enough to be able to let his brain get him through games if his legs do go a bit.

Easily one of the best players we've had in decades and my personal favorite, minus the little spurs blip which i think he realized was a mistake pretty sharpish, he loves the club
