I'm not sure it's his "philosophy" that's the problem. I don't have a problem with playing out from the back, playing possession football etc. I really enjoyed last season's performances and they were consistent with his philosophy.
The problem for me is unrelated to that, and has more to do with tactical ineptitude and poor decision making. We've lined up far too many times this season with players playing out of position, a total lack of width, and a midfield that retains possession without ever looking threatening. Martinez's biggest failure in my eyes is his failure to recognize this and do something to change it.
Add to this the decision to bring the hapless Howard back when Robles was doing a fine job, the fact that I've never seen Everton players look more demotivated, and a catalogue of misfires in the transfer market, and you have a pretty clear idea of the bad job he's doing.
I went to the Arsenal Wigan game at the end of Martinez's last season at Wigan, and watched him watch his chaotic side lose 4-1. Even having been at Goodison when they beat us 3-0 on the way to win the cup, I was still devastated that he was being touted as our next manager. He struck me as tactically naive as well as a bit delusional. This opinion hasn't really changed; last season I found his post-match interviews a bit weird, this season I've found them hard to watch.
It's a real shame because there was something special about the attacking football we played last season, but I think it was built on the solid foundation that Moyes left behind, and I also think we got lucky a lot. This season it hasn't worked out that way, and Martinez doesn't know what to do about it. I don't think we'll go down whether he stays or goes, and I don't really care whether he goes now or at the end of the season, but I believe we can do much better. NSNO.
TOP POST mate....
For me it's simple now, it just boils down to a question, a really basic one, namely...
We have the best squad of players we've had for years yet we are dire, predictable & totally unmotivated...why?
The answer's pretty simple as well, sadly...
