If we go down he will be hated for all of eternity. Hope it's not a repeat of his last Wigan season..winning the europa would lessen the blow 0.0001%

As much as I want him to go now and think he should. I still don't think him staying would result in relegation. Surely we'd still scrape a couple of wins.

That's the only positive spin I can put on the guy.

Good post in amongst the 1,543,234 polls about when he should be sacked. I was particularly impressed with the poll a few weeks back with 6 options of degrees of wanting him sacked, and one fence sitting option.

As you point out, there's no sugar coating this clusterfeck of a season. RM has made a lot of mistakes, and whilst he may show no signs of addressing them, I fear that if we change now, we risk being in a cycle of 12-15 month managers. Chelsea can win stuff doing that because they've got billions to back the manager of the moment. We don't, and won't.

Couple of observations: you're right about needing to replace 3-4 players in the squad (we probably need to do that for 2-3 seasons too, to lower the average age). We won't have the money to do it. The TV money is great, but it benefits everyone, and clubs with better commercial set ups or less debt servicing will be able to outspend us. The money is also going to players / agents as well as inflated transfer fees. A £2m squad player 3 years ago is suddenly an £8m player, but suddenly with a £2m signing on fee and £60k / week. We will be outspent by teams we consider inferior to us.

One last point. I didn't get why Jags was made Captain. Decent player, loyal etc. but that a captain does not make. I know it wasn't RM's decision as he was Vice Captain to Neville, who never played again after the FA Cup debacle, but RM needs to address it. If Jags throws his toys out the pram then say bye. If Mirallas thinks the grass is greener elsewhere, get the best for him (he'll never get a CL club in England). RM has to be ruthless.

We didn't really boost the squad in the summer - converting a couple of loans to permanents, and then the Eto'o debacle. If I was BK I'd sit RM down at the end of the season, tell him the budget (which will be typically less than anyone elses), and tell him if it's still cack by November he's gone. Those of us old enough to remember will recall the crowd turned against Kendall (first version) and he managed to recover the situation. Different times of course.

With all the understandable negativity swirling around I thought perhaps I should offer the opinion of a supporter who thinks perhaps now isn't the time to get rid of Martinez. Not yet anyway.

Its been an awful season. Made even more depressing by the hope last season gave us. A record points total coupled with the nucleus of a young and hungry squad. This season promised so much.

Its hard to pinpoint exactly whats gone wrong this year. An underwhelming front line, dressing room discontent, experienced players out of form. Niggling injuries, long-term injuries and a Europa league campaign. Most worrying though is a lack of a plan B. It still feels like our season hasn't started.

There is definitely troubles in the dressing room. Senior pro's have spoken out. Distin perhaps hasn't been the model-pro he's been lauded in the past. Baines, Howard, Jagielka, Barry have all had their worst season in a decade, all at once. Coleman, Barkley and Lukaku have all struggled with fragile confidence. You cant blame Martinez for being stubborn, yet not place any blame at the same group of players who were so good for him last season.

Looking through the Martinez replacement thread provides all the evidence you need to keep Martinez. Its an insipid list. Seriously, Joe Royle until the end of the season shouts are laughable.

What people perhaps need to realise is a couple of things. Firstly the squads approaching an over haul, the biggest its had since Moyes cleared the decks. This isn't Martinez's team yet. He inherited most of what you'd consider our experienced performers. I think the choices he makes in the summer, after this season, will go a long way to telling us whether he's up to it.

The second and perhaps most important point is that when we appointed him we got potential. We didn't get a manager in his mid 50's who's managed at the top level for 15 years. We got potential. Much like Moyes he's going to make mistakes and get things wrong. He's made mistakes this season, tactically, what he's spouted to the media and behind closed doors. But when you employ someone like that you have to accept that he's training on the job. Whether thats OK for a club like Everton is another debate. But if he learns and gets it right then you end up with a manager at a level you wouldn't of been able to attract in the first place. We gave him a 5 year deal in the summer for a reason, and NO ONE blinked.

If we finish this season 16th. Progress another round in the Europa. Then I'm patient enough to start next season with the hope that this season was a blip. I think its important that the players know that we are sticking with the manager in the medium term.

I imagine being a supporter of Martinez places me now firmly in the minority. I didn't think he was the second coming of Christ last year, but I also don't think he's the worst manager in the league now. So accept why people might want rid. But I dont think its fantasy that we have a good transfer window and get 72 points again next year.
Bbbbbbooooooooooooooo

Expect the haters to show up soon, but I'm with you.
There are also eleven players on the park with an on field captain so let's not dump all blame on Roberto.

But that's the problem - we may have an on field captain but he does NOT lead nor does he inspire. He should be seen as the driving force but the job is way too big for him and he should man up and relinquish his role. Jags has looked insipid and uninspired for most of this season, totally bereft of confidence and uncomfortable on the ball. I guess the problem is, however, who do we replace him with as the majority of the players are probably too young for the skipper's armband or past their best and little more than roundmen in the process of finishing off their careers. Oh for a leader in the mould of Terry or Kompany!

He's only a bloke brought in to manage the players. He doesn't have history within the club. There's a ton of similar managers out there. I feel no loyalty to the guy. Hence I see no compelling reason to not sack him.

Been saying this for a while now, he is a hopeless captain, say what you like about pointy Nev (crap player, turncoat etc etc) but I am willing to bet that we wouldn't have copped two fines for not controlling players when he was captain.

Go back to your polls and Martinez out threads then.

Cash Mate...

I bet bills finger is on the trigger but the money side of it is making him ponder!

Oh for sure. Spurs et al can sack managers at will cos they can afford the payout. Whilst our pauper existence might force us to err towards continuity, it also puts us in a position where we leave it too late to change things up, due to the cost of doing so.
