atmosphere at Goodison is awful.

It's not just Goodison. It's Premier League grounds in general bar a few like Palace and Stoke on the odd occassion.

English footy doesn't have 'Ultras' going to the game. When the camera zooms in on your average supporter in England now, it's my mother and father-in-law, sipping coffee from a paper Nescafe cup, chatting about what pub they fancy eating at after the game. Our atmospheres are rubbish compared to the likes of Germany, Turkey etc.

Plus the price of tickets only attracts the people like my mother and father-in-law now. Retired folk with a few quid in the bank and want to watch the footy in their spare time, which they have loads of.

We have to just accept that post-Hillsborough, there was a drastic change in the stadia experience for most fans in the English football top flight.
As we know, years ago the atmosphere was much better when there was standing, and there was loud singing from the masses behind the goal.
Since the onset of the Premier league in 1992, there's been very clever marketing which has attracted more family types, and once the admission prices started to rise, coupled with the introduction of corporate hospitality, the whole face of your average football fan started to change. The end result of all this change is that you don't get huge gangs of lads standing up behind the goal who were very vocal creating atmosphere.
Ok, the atmosphere was sometimes edgy, certainly if you were an away fan, but it was more exciting than the football ground experience these days, which is now geared up to a family experience.
I'm not saying it's wrong as something had to change to avoid further disasters after events in the late 80's, but todays sterile experience is the legacy we've been left with.

Keep telling yourself that . I've been to loads of grounds that have had a decent atmosphere and not been a morgue like Goodison. Spurs the other day was loud enough. People criticize Arsenal as well, but its always been lively whenever I've been there.

The absolute silence that has been experienced at Goodison this season is not normal, most grounds manage at least a single chant before 30 minutes have passed.
Everton fans at Spurs made a lot of noise.

It was terrible last night because the team are playing awful. And yeah people (me include) moaned and groaned due to far too many wayward passes and 15 minutes of jags-distin-Howard-jags-Barry-distin-hull-Howard-jags-hull-howard is not entertaining and why we spend a small fortune on going the match week in week out.

There Doesn't seem to be any urgency within the team until the last 3 minutes if losing or drawing! So without anything exciting happening it's hard for people to get excited.

Plus it was Baltic last night and the Doris serving the Chang must have been a kopite or osmans sister cos ahe was deffo not all there like!

40 clowns from Hull outsung 30k Evertonians last night. Lukaku did make a Tommy Gravesen style effort to try and get the crowd going but it was a waste of time.

Even away we dont make that much noise, not as much as we try to make out. Singing in pubs and on the coach dosent count, sadly that is when Everton are the most vocal.

Good post mate.

I absolutely agree with you! Its like we have no voice left in us by the time we get to view the game. Plus the fact we are all probably anaethetised by alcohol! I remember all the games from the seventies and eighties but after that I would be lying.

People tell me our away is the greatest, at times it is...it amazes me, gives me goosebumps and astounds me (like Wolfsburg away) but other times i've been to away games and we've sat in silence. Goodison is even worse, i used to go along with the "all prem grounds are like this now" narrative that fits and helps us feel better...

But it's not true, we have a problem with quietness at Goodison.

The problem is, we NEED a singing section, rebrand it to whatever you want to call it, it's a singing section, but our fans are too scared of being laughed at. Everything suggested turns into "thats kopite behaviour lad"

The Gwladys is always the loudest, we know this, they need no help. But the Park End (where i sit) is painfully quiet a lot of the time, the away fans goad us all game and 2/3 fellas respond and get laughed at.

One of two things needs to happen

1, a singing section put together in the park end PE6/PE7. Nonstop singing.
2, a fan with a mic stands at the front belting out songs and gets everyone at it, like they do in Europe.

2 isn't going to happen, England is different to the rest of Europe's support, but it works everywhere else...unfortunately English songs compared to European/South American songs are very different in terms of the style they're sung, the new Barkley song actually reminds me more of a European/SA song.

So it's 1, so why can't we sort it and get it going next season? Enough people are moaning about the quietness, but no one is willing to do anything.

TLDR: Get singing you meffs

This might seem like a good idea as we don't have it here and sometimes anything new is good, but I've been a season ticket holder in a stadium where this has been the method to get the crowd going. At first I thought it was boss as the crowd was really loud but after a few games it really started to grate. The were no spontaneous chants from the crowd as there was a hierarchy over who would actually start a chant. It got so formulaic that you could predict which chants were for when. Like a certain chant at a corner and the like. Finally it just got plain irritating as it was so fake. It actually ruined the enjoyment of the match having this dude on a microphone yelling in it constantly. I was relieved to go to Goodison and find I could enjoy the game, shout when I wanted and join in the chants when I felt like it. And once Goodison gets properly going there is no better atmosphere and that's not biased.
