atmosphere at Goodison is awful.

It's not just Goodison. It's Premier League grounds in general bar a few like Palace and Stoke on the odd occassion.

English footy doesn't have 'Ultras' going to the game. When the camera zooms in on your average supporter in England now, it's my mother and father-in-law, sipping coffee from a paper Nescafe cup, chatting about what pub they fancy eating at after the game. Our atmospheres are rubbish compared to the likes of Germany, Turkey etc.

Plus the price of tickets only attracts the people like my mother and father-in-law now. Retired folk with a few quid in the bank and want to watch the footy in their spare time, which they have loads of.

German atmosphere is a myth, it is just a constant drone regardless of what is going in the game.

Most grounds are Quiet nowadays, just the way footballs going in this country. Goodison has been a morgue other than the big matches for years

What does my head in though is how fast everyone is to get on players backs and moan and groan, even last year when we were winning, playing the best football in decades, as soon as there was a stray pass the moans start

Keep telling yourself that . I've been to loads of grounds that have had a decent atmosphere and not been a morgue like Goodison. Spurs the other day was loud enough. People criticize Arsenal as well, but its always been lively whenever I've been there.

The absolute silence that has been experienced at Goodison this season is not normal, most grounds manage at least a single chant before 30 minutes have passed.

Yes, I think I read somewhere the average age of punters at an EPL game is 40 something.

That fact in itself will cut down on the chanting.

So.....what us your theory then as to why Goodison is so quiet?

I know it was years ago, but when I watched live football as a kid, I could get in for literally pocket money. Dad didnt pay, I did. Not a chance normal folk could do that now. Not a chance. And in those days, it was really only gate money that funded the clubs in the main, so there was a greater incentive to maximise the takings than there is now, what with TV and that.

Does my nut.

There is no doubt admission prices have gone up out of all proportion.

A couple of times when I was younger, in the 70s even in the 80s, I had periods of unemployment.

But I was still able to go the match as it was relatively inexpensive.

Blimey, an unemployed person couldn't even dream of going the. Such these days.

Travelling away back then you just made sure you had your travel money and a few quid fior a beer.....the last thing you worried about was the money into the game.
