Oh come now

He's good, but he's not THAT good

Sometimes Gibson is just so massively overhyped in certain circles

He's decent and very good at what he does, but he's nowhere near one of the best CM's right now and he certainly won't be when he's 2 years older

He's a solid option in the middle of the park whom, when he's not injured, can contribute well to the team. But he's not an exceptional talent. If he was, he would have never left Man United

He's just good, nothing even close to bad, but not amazing. He's a good player who gets hurt too much, and hopefully he's managed to nip that aspect in the bud

The ones where people understand football?

Its his ability to manipulate the ball more than anything. His passing range is exceptional. And I think he actually reads a game better than he's given credit for. He's a proper midfielder.

No complaints from me as to his skill level or his passing

It's just, he's not in the top 10 CM's for me in the Premier League

On his day, he's great and he can coast on that goal against City for the rest of his time here as far as I'm concerned

I feel we are overhyping him far, far too much

He's our Dennis Irwin (If you ignore that Irwin was DF) in that he's a 7.5-8 out of 10 every time he's out there, but he's not a spectactular player

Which is precisely what makes him so good.

Better consistently a 7/8 than a 10 one week and a 3 the next.

Im interested to learn of the 10 other CMs that are better than him?

Erm no.

I said in two years if he remains injury free he could be one of the top Centre Mids in a league where there aren't that many good ones.

Didn't say Platini level.

Thats my point really, the league isnt ram packed with top class CMs currently, most of the quality players are AMs, Strikers, Wingers even, infact, overall, the Premiership has a very low quality currently IMO.

Yeah, but best players in the league are regularly 9 and 10's every week, which he isn't

He's just under the best on the totem pole

Who is? Yaya Toure, maybe.

Considering there was once Keane, Viera, Scholes, Gerrard in his prime etc. all knocking about at the same time and now there's only Yaya Toure arguably even near that level, it's not like I'm saying he's up there with Maradona.

You don't need to be spectacular to be one of the top CMs in the Prem and his job isn't to be spectacular. Carrick or Barry are his nearest comparable players. The media raved about Carrick for the way he dictated the rhythm of a title winning side and that's what Gibson does or did for us. It's what Barry did all last season too.
