Just had another look at Barkley's vs city. Blimey what a strike it was.
You are welcome! There was another one that came to mind by Jimmy husband although it was not so important. not sure if same season or a bit later may be. Can't remember the details so well, possibly vs Newcastle but it was a long pass out of defence from I think tommy Wright which Husband let come over his shoulder and stroked it in on the volley from about 16 yards iirc, also in Park End. Bergkamp like silky touch touch and timing.
That will be it. That is a perfect description that brought it flooding back. Well done. Was the 69-70 season?just checked cited as 70-71 season. Interesting slight difference in opinion whether it touched his chest or not!! It was a beauty, is all that matters. He was a really stylish player jimmy husband.Think it was v Chelsea. Hurst intercepted the ball on the edge of his own box and laid it off short to Ball who switched it first touch, without needing to look up, to the right wing to Kendall, who , also first touch, floated it 50 yards to the edge of the Chelsea box, where Husband chested it down and hit it on the half volley into the roof of the net. Unbelieavable goal -- 4 first time touches, the ball moved nearly 100 yards, back of the net. All in less than 10 seconds.
Seem to recall an article on it a couple of years ago in the Echo, as so many older supporters had chosen it in a piece about the greatest ever Everton goals.
Alas, no footage of it exists.
One worth a mention is Colin Harvey's against WBA April 1970 to clinch league title that season. So many of the above were unbelievable pieces of skill I could not choose just one although the Graeme Sharp vs Spurs in 82 had people saying to each other did that really just happen ? It was a surreal moment. TV clip does not do it justice.
Harvey scored very few goals but this was a mazy run across the edge of the park end penalty box. Had nowhere to go so just kept possession and then suddenly just hit it..... Cue mega celebrations because it clinched the league for a truly ace team. Night match too just to add to the atmosphere!

any decent keeper catches that without breaking sweatdid score a volley from the semi circle a few weeks back tbh
I was at that match. Not only did he run from the halfway line towards the Gwladys st who were hurling every obscenity and monkey chant noise that you can imagine in them days. He scored a superb goal and the ground fell silent until a well deserved round of applause rang around Goodison. Even from the Gwladys Street.
For sheer relsease of emotion it has to be this:
any decent keeper catches that without breaking sweat
...delighted that I wasn't imagining it. Your post is appreciated. It was such a special goal that its always lived in my memory. Clyde Best was one of the first black players, big strapping lad, can't say I remember the monkey chants but not denying it was the culture then. Bottom line is that we witnessed a fabulous goal.
Got a
Got a feeling this was my first league game, got no recollection of the goal, but I'm certain Best took a pen,it hit both posts then hit Gordon West on the back and went in!!again my memory could be playing tricks,we lost 2-1!
Think my first league game was 71-72 mate,I'll have to check my EFC book for the stats!!....November 1972 that game. Brooking and Best scored but the goal I'm thinking of wasn't a pen. Not sure if he scored on another occasion at Goodison.
