Beer, revisited

Not Beer but came across this fine Stout while in West Africa recently brewed in The Gambia and nearly twice as strong as the Guinness here at 7.5%, only £1 a bottle in the bars as well.

Just got a home brewing kit for my birthday and am working on my first batch. Anyone brew their own?
I do mate - regularly brew good ale at home, if I say so myself.

I do all grain brewing, which traditionally was something for the serious enthusisast as you needed a bit of a sophisticated set-up. There's a popular technique called brew-in-a-bag, though, that allows you to do all-grain in a very simple way with results that are almost as good - very easy to move onto this after you've got a few kits under your belt.
Kits are good now, as well - do an extract brew properly and you'll have good ale.

Is that the name? Don't hold out--I'm planning to visit in early May and want as many good suggestions as I can find. Someone previously mentioned The Dispensary and Fly in the Loaf, both of which look nice. The Brick gets a mention frequently, as does The Lisbon (obviously).
The Ship and Mitre is prob the best-known real ale pub in Liverpool - inside is nothing special though. More interesting places are the Baltic Fleet on Wapping (weird shape that sort of looks like the front of a ship) which does its own ale. The Philarmonic on Hope St is also a nicely atmospheric place - cavernous and echoing rooms - good for a pint when it's quiet.
They're all v well known - I'm a bit of a tourist in the city these days so don't know any hidden gems.

Easily my favourite pub in Liverpool and my first stop whenever I get off the train at Lime St. ;).

Is the Ship still run by Blues? Remember it used to piss my Kopite friend off that he was giving good money, to drink great beer to Evertonians ;)

I liked the taste of beer when I was about 8 or 9, used to get little tasters of Stones & Heineken, along with Woodpecker cider when my ma had parties, family get togethers in the 70's, early 80's

And then started going the pub when I was around 17; and have been drinking ever since.

Now, I buy beer to age (hence my question), as well as drink fresh.

There really are so many different beers out there, that I guarantee there will be ONE beer you like. I used to detest sour/wild ales, and now I can't get enough of Cantillon's sour ales, and the many Gueuze & lambics out there.

I still can't do lager's though!

I work in Cheadle at the moment, and there's a little shop with a pub attached, called the bottle stop. Quite simply the greatest beer shop I have ever seen. The choice is really quite mesmerising. Belgian is a speciality, do circa 100 different Belgians, 70/80 English Ales, good selection of ciders and choice of crisps and dried meat to match. I can't leave the place without spending 30-40 quid on bottles.

Oh, honeypot I found in Manchester, could drink it all night. Smooth and tasty. Cheeky Pheasant, found at the ferry inn in Penketh. Ship and mitre.0, I've o
Lost count, and invariably, memory of the beers I've had there.

Personal favourite Belgians...... Delirium Tremons. Karemeliat. Any proper Tripel, preference being Westmalen or St Fuelien. The Trappist do some cracking ales like......

Is that The Bottle Shop on the way into Bramhall?
