Brewdog are annoyingly good - Aberdeen company (I think) who brew great ale. The annoying bit comes from their marketing, which is all along the lines of assert-your-rugged-individualism by drinking our beer. I guess that is what it takes to make a splash, though - if you just brew some IPA and stick it out there without any marketing idea then you'll get nowhere. THis is the type of bollox they come out with:

They have some brewdog bars in the north and Scotland, not sure if there's one in Liverpool - been in the Manchester one a few times. Great ale, but all above 5% - could do with some lighter session beers. You're tripping over students passed out from drinking three pints of very strong ale.

Yeah, their marketing is tedious but some of their beer is great. Magic Rock, Buxton, The Kernel, Weird Beard are some better UK ones though i think.

Speights; jug of, after a hard game of footy at Te Atatu...magic!

I was in Auckland for a few days last month and I tried a few of the local beers, as I always do when I travel to somewhere new.
Speights was OK, but two which stood out for me were Montieths Pale Ale and Golden Lager.

That bar next to the Adelphi - INN, I think it's called - has a cracking beer selection. Bottled, draught and real ale. Best kept pint of Budvar I've ever had as well.

Is that the name? Don't hold out--I'm planning to visit in early May and want as many good suggestions as I can find. Someone previously mentioned The Dispensary and Fly in the Loaf, both of which look nice. The Brick gets a mention frequently, as does The Lisbon (obviously).

I miss good beer so much.

I love it, but it stopped loving me a few years ago...the gas/bloated feeling. Only drink it on the golf course for hydration purposes these days...or the one off (which I later regret) dinner beverage.

Rum/single malt is my beer...high octane stuff at that. Probably not wise.

Theres a really great brewery from Liverpool called Mad Hatters as well. Been drinking their Imperious Double IPA recently, 11% woof.

Really like the look of that. had the Delirium Tremens in a bar in Glasgow a couple of weeks ago, but never seen that anywhere.

Don't think I've had the Tremens, but this was very good. I'm partial to what you can get from Unibroue (Montreal), very similar I think (Maudite similar to Nocturnum; La Fin du Monde probably similar to Tremens). There are probably quite a few differences, but given local availability and the strength of my wallet, I can't afford to compare them side by side and so that's the best comparison I can make. I also probably prefer what Ommegang (Cooperstown, NY) makes to Delerium, but if the Delerium brews were half their price I may have a different opinion.

One of my friends does - he's done probably two dozen different batches. I've brewed with him, bought a kit, did an enjoyable red. We're meeting up on Friday to brew an IPA.

There's probably quite a broad range, given where you buy it, but for what I can find locally, a 4-pack of Unibroue is usually $10-$12. A 4-pack of Ommegang is around $16 (only 1 seller locally). The Delerium are almost $22 for a 4-pack, but this was at World Market. Could be much cheaper if I had taken the time to look.

Probably around 22-24 for me, but it also depends upon your selection. There were certainly some brews I did not enjoy when I was younger that I prefer now.
