Time To Get Behind Beattie.

Never! He hasn't produced and continuing to think that he can 'turn it on' is, by definition, insanity.

For half a season, he was stunning for us. In addition to his 20+ goals in one season for the Saints, followed up by an 18 goal season (don't quote me on the exact numbers, but they are close).

For that half season, he produced 3 contenders for goal of the season. Against West Ham away (the lob from 7-8 yards out !!!!!! I mean, how do you lob the keeper from 7 yards out!), the lay-off from Cahill where he lobbed Niemi and his outmuscling of 12 Aresenal defenders to push the ball home past Lehmann.

People argue he was pushing for a WC spot, but it is obviously a matter of motivation. He scored 9 goals in about 10-11 games in that run, then the season ended and his next goals have only been penalties.

I WANT him to come back to that form because if he does we have a very exciting strike force, plus with the glamor of our Euro trip, hopefully he galvanizes himself and proves his worth and pays back Moyes faith in him. (If Moyes will keep backing him, so will I, Moyes has demonstrated he isn't willing to keep somebody just because he bought them, see Kroldrup and Davies)

Only Fools and Horses is one of his faves. I think he takes the name from Rodney. (doesn't he look like him :P ;) ) Just kidding!

Any true blue will want to see both Beattie and VDM leave Goodison. Beattie is a far more honest pro that the drunken Dutchman but is still not suited to our type of play (and not many others if the truth is said). It is nice to see people talk with their hearts rather than their heads, he has had all the chances in the world enough is enough go, for God's sake GO!!!!!!!!

his outmuscling of 12 Aresenal defenders to push the ball home past Lehmann.

I think you're giving him way too much credit, Senderos and Gallas are hardly 12 men :P

It was a good goal I'll give it that but hardly as good as you made it out to be. I do wish he'd have a resurgence in this kind of form though, perhaps if Pienaar finds his feet in the premiership then he'll get the service he needs to become a decent striker in the premiership.

If theres one player who would come back to bite us in the arse its Beattie.

One last chance I say. Now or never.

(unless we get a bid of 4+m though.... )

I agree, He seems to help with the atmosphere of the team telling jokes and the like. There's no doubt he has a positive effect on the team's morale I hope VDM's latest soundbyte is him really getting ready to knuckle down and put some graft in for the cause.

If Beattie gets the service he needs from widemen (Arteta, Pienaar, VDM and Ossie). I believe he'll come good but at the moment the only person who has proven pin point crossing ability is Arteta and thats really not enough to supply the big man.

One last season to prove himself. If he still can't do it with the addition of another wideman then he's never going to make it in a blue shirt which is a shame because you can tell he has a positive effect on team spirit.

If/When he's playing I'll get behind him as much as any other blue player. I'm not sure he can deliver as much, but as I wrote in a thread about VdM, he might need to play against lower league teams/worse teams in competitive situations and score a goal or two to get back on track.

His type of play requires two strikers and good balls from the sides to work with, we haven't really played like that since we got him and that's one reason he hasn't risen to the lvl of play he can. Only time I've seen him do some good for us is on corners and so on when he can flick the ball on to others. If I remember correctly he did so in the last game of last season to set up Naysmith.. but I can be wrong there.

I hope he gets a goal and then time and opportunity afterwards since the only thing he lacks in confidence, and just one goal can make the whole difference. But he must be playing his last hands at the pokertable now and unless he gets some winninghands he'll be outplayed and sold.
