Had a abscess in a tooth once and it was horrendous. Worst pain ever.

Calamine lotion mate, soothes the itching.

Ooo thanks for that, I'll give it a go. More spots are out, they look like little blisters!

Apparently calamine is no longer fashionable for chickenpox. It dries the skin out, causing it to crack and scab, increasing the risk of scarring.

The lovely doctor/pharmacy folk now recommend pinetarsol (smells like woodhouse smoke, and is a green colour). Bung a few capfuls in the bath and let junior splash around abit giving nice relief.
