Leighton Baines

Nobody is gonna be that arsed any more when Baines signs his contract. It's taken far too long. Surely if he was such a boss Blue and actually wanted to stay he'd have signed it yonks ago?

Seriously struggling to comprehend why more and more seem to be wanting to sell Leighton Baines.

Reasons ive seen include: His age, we could get up to £16mil for him, Oviedo is better...

Hes had a less formidable season so far granted, due to a mixture of us not playing every single attack down the left like last year and an injury.

Why are people forgetting that he's our most gifted player, and the best left back in Europe?

Oviedo has done great, but the lad was in last chance saloon. He played well, full of purpose and adrenalin, showing that in the case of a Baines injury were arent so bad off....but....

Baines possess far more quality on the ball
Baines reads the game better - a combination of talent and experience
Needless to say Baines out-does Oviedo on the dead-ball front

So to those that would play Oviedo - Im generally interested... why? Because hes quicker?!

Finally (forgive me), I have seen people pointing to the reason of 'how we were playing with Baines out'...

As stated above, we dont just have the left-hand side anymore as an attacking focus - so what did Oviedo in that month that we are now missing?

All seems a little bonkers to me, but I am intrigued as to what you think?

Agree that we shouldn't sell him but from what I can tell we still largely abuse the left hand side when he plays. Not that that's his fault like, but it's very annoying.

He's a class act though and I wouldn't sell him for £16m, no way.

I totally agree that Baines is the better left back out of the two, BUT, i would also very happily take £16-20 million for a left back, a role which doesn't normally have the biggest effect on a game.

And in reply to "what did Oviedo in that month that we are now missing?" Scored goals!! But i don't mind either way, keep a world class left back, or sell him for £16 million and replace him with a already good, younger one!

If hernandez was somehow involved in a potential deal for baines would you consider it ? I agree with all the posts here re baines he is top top left full my concern is at his age and with the suspected wages he is set to receive financially is it a good deal for efc

Baines is just getting on my nerves. Say what you like, he's not played well this season and somehow we're bending over backwards to keep him and make him the clubs top earner. And even then... he's still not signed. What's he waiting for now? Maybe to see if United step up with another offer?

Why sell Baines when:

1. He's a top class player.
2. We already have a transfer surplus of around £25 million from the last couple of seasons which we are yet to see spent on players.

I don't think we want to sell him. But if he won't renew his contract should we just let it dwindle down and let him go for free?

That said, I think he'll end up signing (because the only club interested in him don't seem to want him now), but not after he's strung us along and made himself our top earner.
