To be fair, he did make Mertezacker look standard last week and kept Vidic very busy over the weekend...
We only have Yobo, Jags and Lescott for centreback - no other backup (unless you want to risk Rodwell, Neville or Nuno!) and no hotshot kids tipped for stardom... Lescott's clearly better at leftback (despite what he may feel) so this could be more about beefing up the squad with a quality youngster.
Everyone's always on about how we don't need more defenders - but how screwed would we be if Jagielka got injured or even Yobo again, we have plenty of rightbacks and leftbacks, but nothing in the middle.
