5-6M for Anichebe / Jelavic

20M for Lukaku

you get what you pay for... or in our case borrow

( What was Maureen thinking )

I have no idea mate. Even more puzzling as he's the exact model of what Maureen has always looked for in a striker. When he came back to Chelsea I fully expected Lukaku to play a big role in his side this season, bizarre that he let him go, whilst keeping Ba ffs!

Don't wish to label him as such, but let me say his playing style is that of a much younger Drogba.
A monster !!

he'll probably become a better player. drogba didn't become a player until he was about 26 and he was nowhere near as good with his feet as lukaku is. both fine fine strikers though.

Ideally we need to be shifting Heitinga and Jelavic in Jan and using the money left over from the summer or with sky money to buy another top striker. Lukaku has already shown what we've missed by us having to rely on average forwards

The last time we had a centre forward who could put the fear of life into the opposition was ferguson. He came here on loan, immersed himself and ultimately fell in love with the club. I am not expecting lukaku to do that, but there were similarities with dunc, in the way he changed the atmosphere of our support from the moment he came on. His mere presence on the pitch not only lifted our support, but also gave belief and lifted the play of the players around him. Great start long may it continue!

This really. Never thought of the 'Ferguson presence' comparison but totally get what your saying!. I noticed straight away what a lift he gave to the likes of Mirallas, Baines & Barkley, especially Mirallas, he was a different player second half, looked the quality player we all know he is!.

All 3 upped there games the second he came on and all 3 linked up really well with Lukaku and the early signs are promising!. Lets not get carried away though, he is still only 20, unbelievably, and will have quiet games but if he as games like yesterday more often than not, then weve got some player on our hands!.

We just looked alot more dangerous as a side going forward with him on the pitch!. We had a big presence upfront for a change and when the ball went forward into him, it stuck and he always seemed to do the right thing. I also noticed that when we did play into him, he never just gave it back where it came from, he was always positive and either tried to beat a man, went out wide or even turned and looked for a forward pass which helped with our attacking play, he kept things boiling over, too many times with Jelavic he would give a first time pass backwards and slow the play down and we'd have to start again and find another way of breaking through the opposition, or he'd just lose it?!.

If we can just keep plugging away whilst in transition, picking up wins and points here and there till december, the turn of the new year, then i think we'll start to click into place with the more confidence we gain through good results and start to show what a good side we'll become under Martinez. Weve finally got some really good options amongst the squad now, alot of ability in the side and to call upon from the bench in the likes of Deulofeu, Stones, Oviedo & Kone!.

I was positive before about the new Martinez era but looking at things now after saturday's result, im starting to get quite excited about this season!.

You up your game when you have better players around you, simple as. You'd make more of an effort when you know your centre forward (the tip of your attack) isn't going to fall over or spaff half chances out for a throw in.

we could pressure them but arsenal have improved with a real class act in ozil and giroud looks to be a new player. Spurs you would say have strengthened considerably as well, however, they had a great squad last season and relied purely on one man, so we'll have to see about them.

we'll see.

Arsenal only have one striker. Before today only Giroud, Podolski and Ramsey had scored league goals for them and they could struggle to finish the chances that they create. Will Ozil's arrival and Ramsey's goalscoring form push Santi Cazorla out of the side? They still have their defensive weakness and I don't think they have that much strength in depth.

Soldado hasn't yet scored for Spurs from open play in the league. I think they'll struggle to replace Bale's match-winning contributions.

Got to say, mirallas' ball was amazing, thought he had his best game this season.

He was good and looking really lively now. He deliberately gave Lukaku sufficient time to patrol into the box, taking some West Ham defenders with him, before jinking back around to deliver a super cross.

Can also see Lukaku took Joey O'Brien's attempt at a clearing header in his temple at some real force. Lukaku's header already powering the ball into the goal when it came in. That was a heavy duty knock.

I genuinely cannot believe we have got him for the season when he is head and shoulders better than Torres, Eto'o and Ba. If only Jose decided he didn't fancy him and that we could have him for 20m... dream...

At least if he's ever available for sale he wouldn't be sold to one of their immediate rivals, which after this year would hopefully put us in a strong position should he want to stay in the country.
