The club is now claiming it will cost £80m. Add to that a debt of, say, £60m and we have a new debt of £140m. Minus from that the sale of Goodison, the training ground and the money we get for naming rights, and the debt will probably be around £100m. This, presumably, will be taken on by whichever investor then buys the club.

But I still don't want Kirkby. It's Kirkby for [Poor language removed]'s sake. Id be no less happy if we were planning on a move to Newton-le-Willows. That's also on Merseyside.

Just refurbish Goodison.

You mentioned everyone was in fantasy land if they thought that JUST the distance and location was the main factor -

And if you read the full post I mentioned that, yes, there are many reasons.

But....The location and distance was a major factor before more information came to light. The info that followed (no matter how bad it was on its own right) just reinforced to fans that dont want to move out of the city why they shouldnt go.

From the get go before all the information was released regarding DK, when it was only just a ballot for fans to vote on, a brochure, KEIOC came on the scene just because of its location pursuading people why the club shouldnt move. Why call it Keep Everton In Our City otherwise? Even if everything was rosey and what Wyness said was true, they'd still be here today trying to stop the move and you'd still have fans saying they wont go purely on its location outside the boundry.

That was the catalyst from the off. Everything on top of that just solidifyed their stance and also brought people pro DK to change their minds.

Which, of course, was bound to happen with the information that came to light. BUT the discussion on this thread started about not filling a 50,000 seater stadium and posters saying fans wouldnt go because of the distance/location. You said that wasnt the case and its not the case in full, I agree, but IMO for the average joe fan its one of the biggest things that started everything.

It seems now another arguement against DK from teh enquiry is the fact we couldnt ever fill a 50,000 seater stadium anyway -- so what's the point overall if that's the case of moving anywhere?

Mr Kelly questioned the legitimacy of any exclusivity agreement between Everton, Tesco and Knowsley BC, questioned the legitimacy of Everton's ballot of fans over the stadium proposal and claimed KEIOC could prove many of 35 potential stadium sites in the Liverpool City Council area ticked the necessary boxes for a possible new home for the Club.

So, in essence, Mr Kelly will prove that we should spend money we don't have on a alternative site we don't want, with money we don't have. Yet we don't have the fanbase to fill it given his Kirkby analysis.

Talk about talking both ways out of your arse.

And I thought enquiries were dullness personified.

watch it on the net, tv pub or just get on with my life goodison does not come up to standard,with the needs of modern sport i know that but i feel that we have been lied to from day one about kirkby it the free stadium ect and just dont feel i could support the club after that if they move there

It's tragic, it really is. The feeling I get on this forum is that many haven't looked beyond the glossy brochure of spin and broken promises delivered by EFC in July 07. Most just cant be arsed to look at the issue in anything approaching a level of analysis, which, given the enormity of the situation, is staggering.

You can only claim the practical high ground of 'realism', as many supporters of Kirkby do, if you actually know what both sides of the story are and what possibilities are open if we look at the situation through an alternative prism to the one used by the club.

I'm not in KEIOC mate. Just a fellow traveller persuaded against locating the club in Kirkby by reading some of the key documents.

Ok, we get the message Kirkby is evil, its out of town, its a [Poor language removed] stadium and its gonna cost a bomb, can somebody please tell me what the alternative is?

We cant afford to rebuild Goodison, we have no money, i doubt the banks would lend us the 200m+ to do this.

We cant afford to build a new stadium, if a site could be found within the city, i also doubt the banks would lend us the 400m+ needed for this.

Sometimes you just have to go with what you can afford.
