Transfer Window Assessment

Total disgrace and Martinez has spunked all the cash down the toilet basically;

Ex Wigan;

Robles -- 1.5mil reserve keeper
Kone - 6,5mil reserve forward
Alcaraz - Signing fee for an injury prone 6th centre back
McCarthy - 13mil obviously Martinez first choice

Loans

Barry - Paying 100k a week for him
Deulofeu - No chance to buy later
Lukaku - No chance to buy later

Out

Fellaini - 27.5mil a good price but one of our top two players.
Anichebe - 5mil good fee

I think we've done well on sales fees but rubbish on the players coming in.

Heitinga / Naismith /Gueye / Jelavic still here as well. MASSIVE amount of wages were paying this season for dross.

In a year ONLY James McCarthy will be in our starting 11 and so we've basically swapped Fellaini for McCarthy and a huge amount of wages on players for this season

Disgraceful from top to bottom this window and I can't believe that so few people aren't seeing through this charade.

We desperately needed a top striker and Lukaku is exactly that. Even for just 12 months it's a really exciting signing. Deulofeu from what we've seen so far is also a very exciting player. What of the Wigan guys ? To some extent we have to defer judgement on all of them. McCarthy and Robles are young and have a chance of becoming first team regulars though Robles will obviously have to wait his turn. Alcaraz seems like he could be decent cover at CB. I'm more dubious about Kone, but at least he has the pace to worry defenders. All in all, a decent bunch of new arrivals. And Everton really stood firm in the face of intense pressure from Man United over Baines and Fellaini. Nothing disgraceful about any of that at all.

I'm over the moon. Feckin best summer wheeling and dealings in living memory...genuinely excited about the season now. And all without adding any debt to the club whatsoever or dipping into the TV money so the accounts should be very healthy next year.

Overall, we've done well.

We stuck to our guns, we got £27.5m for Fellaini - a player who desperately wanted out, inserted clause in his new contract, titty lip vs Wigan in the Cup, handed transfer request in. You can't keep blaming the club in this instance, the player wanted out.

The fact Utd bid £28m for Fellaini AND Baines 2 weeks ago, and eventually settled on £27.5m on just Fellaini is a massive triumph.

The fact Leighton Baines is still at the club, after Everton turned down 6 separate bids from Utd for him is a major major victory. It also says a lot about Baines that he never forced the issue or handed a transfer request in which he could have done like Fellaini.

McCarthy for £13m - is it too much, is he worth it? Time will tell. He's 22 years old and has bags of potential. Give the lad a chance.

Barry on loan for the season, and at the end of it he's out of contract too, so will be available on a free.

Boosts the options.

£6m for Anichebe is a great deal for someone with a 1 goal every 6 games goalscoring ratio.

I'm relatively happy.

I think people are going way over the top just because we have got Lukaku on loan. We still sold Fellaini and failed to invest more than half of the funds, and we went and bought yet another Wigan player who is far from proven. I'm happy because I thought things would be far worse than this, but I think it was far from being a fantastic transfer window.

Whoever our negotiators are deserve a bonus. Martinez has handled himself superbly too. I'm happy as **** right now.

We have Deulofeu and Lukaku, two of the brightest talents in the game, not to mention our own superb Barkley.

Then we have another bright talent in McCarthy (a level below those lot but still very promising) whilst replacing Fellaini with Barry who although isn't as good will provide great cover when needed.

Also Kone/Alcaraz/Robles have given us great depth although i still believe Kone is fairly poor, he should get better with time.

We will have a fair bit of cash to spend in January aswell!

Very happy today
£27.5 million for Fellaini is great business.
Baines staying
I like McCarthy but think we did pay too much, should have been more £10 million
Lukaku is a brilliant signing and Barry is decent on loan as well

Only Bill could get away with this transfer window with people saying he's "played a blinder" on here. Unbelievable. The fella has taken in over 10m profit we'll never see. That could have bought us a quality striker to play alongside Lukaku, or a real midfielder to sit alongside McCarthy as opposed to freebie and past it Gareth Barry.

But oh no, he's really come up trumps here old Bill.

In total agreement. He's made a profit again after years of underinvestment, sold our best midfielder, countenanced the spending of 20m to a relegated Wigan side, another bizzare bid for a player in the Banega / Fer days of yore, and yet he's played a blinder and getting actually praised.

People ask what is more important - strengthening the squad or strengthening the starting XI?

Well, we just did both. Well done Everton, you've played a blinder.

Nice assessment, but you have to factor in continual ageing of the squad. A squad's average age should be between 25-28. So if you dont continually bring youth into the side you become an old squad within 2-3 seasons. Players like Howard, Hibbo, Ossie, Pienaar are not getting any younger... Look at what happened to us with Neville last year.

on the plus, Stones and Barkley look like they will become regular first teamers. But nonetheless our next few signings over the coming 12 months needs to bring the squad age down.

Average age has been brought down with McCarthy, Barkley, Lukaku, Gerard and Robles coming into it. Be interesting to see if any other kids other than Stones get a look in under Martinez. I think he has done well for a first window, certainly better than Rodgers at RS and he had a slow start and look at them now.

Best window in a long long time for me, real quality added. With just Mofro lost. Barkly coming to the fore also really excites, we have some options in the squad now.

Two loaners and an overpriced McCarthy for Fellaini...though to be fair we sold an overpriced fellaini, so maybe it is a wash. We should be better for this season, in theory....but at the end of it, we have McCarthy for Fellaini...That's not better. Not by a long shot. If you believe the rest of the fellaini money might be spent rather than absorbed, then the jury is still out.

!

I know that's a joke but I wish people would shut up with it. It just annoys me knowing the pot is already dry and it's not even 90 minutes after the window.

Who funds our loan signings next summer... Barkley?

I was concerned that we would overpay for McCarthy, but when you consider we've received an extra £5m for Fellaini it doesn't seem that much.

Overall, probably one of the best transfer windows we've had in a long, long time.
