"Smaller Team"

Everton Football Club is an English football club located in the city of Liverpool. The club competes in the Premier League and have contested more seasons in the top flight of English football than any other. Currently managed by David Moyes, they are the sixth most successful English clubs in terms of major honours, having won the League Championship nine times, the FA Cup five times and the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup once.

Just to remind you who you support.

I'm talking in todays footballing climate.

Well, he wants to emulate us... emulating a small side wouldn't make much sense.

Assume he means small as in, not a top four?

I think he means what we achieved with the size of our squad last season. He'd like to emulate that because he's gonna have a small squad too by the time his board have finished selling his players. Least I think thats what he means.

We aint all that, but thats the problem i suppose, younger football fans see us as plucky outsiders, i doubt most young fans dont even realise that we were possibly the biggest team in the world at 1 point.

And i dont mean young Everton fans i mean non believers.

I know we're a big club, my Dad has brought me up to know this, but in todays footballing climate, we're nowhere near the Sky4 and i think Spurs maybe a bigger club.

It's probably because kids no absolutely nothing about Football outside the Sky4.

You can maybe add Manchester City to the Sky4 soon, if they get rid of Hughes and are able to bring in some Robinho esque players.

Gotta agree with Cal on this one.

I think he was simply referring to the fact that we aren't "Big 3" and that we don't have the resources they currently do.

I don't think he was having a go at us at all. Just stating it like it is.

I actually took it as a complement that we have done as well as we have in spite of not having those resources. I'm fairly confident that's what he meant.

I think its gonna be a while untill City are competing, i mean i would say 2 years at least and your right about Hughes, hes not the right man for that job.

But we have Fellaini. Now we are a big team. Possibly even bigger than Liverpool. Im sure Yaks got a fairly sizeable penis as well, so you never know, we could be up there with Man Utd...

Don't be harsh on the man. When he played in England we were playing like crap.

It must be some difference from where we were and where we are now (or in recent years).

Hang on, are we discussing the finite layers of context in a random grab from Zola the Legend?

He's talking about the number of players in our squad.

I doubt a man with the pedigree of his history in the Premier League would refer to us a small club reputation wise. He would have played at Goodison Park loads of times and if youve been there and played against us would you put in the Stoke/Hull (no offense) category?

Pitchforks down lads. Zola's a great man, and the fact he is talking about trying to emulate us is a huge pat on the back.

There's a lot of insecurity about the place at the moment. These comments are jumped upon, as are those from the Dutch lad on the Wijnaldum thread. Neither thread has warranted all the attention they've recieved.
