Kone Signs on 3 Year Deal

I'm realistic, tbh. I think the least any supporter can do is give this feller a chance. I'm staggered at the amount of people who cant do that. Obviosly not all who question his signings are opposed to the managerial appointemnt, but there's a pretty sinister undercurrent from some, and it seems connected to a view that Moyes should still be here. Well, he's not here because he chose to frig off and leave us. On the signing of Kone: we have to defer to Martinez's in depth knowledge of the player and why he'd be worth £5-6M. No one on here who questions the decision is privvy to the plan the manager has for him (or who else he may want to surround Kone with).

I think people just disagree with paying £5-6m on a 30 year old striker. I'm 100% behind Martinez, but I'm not sure about this deal. It seems too short term, but then maybe Martinez is thinking that he needs short term success to establish himself, which i could understand.

His age/resale possibilities is an understandable fear for supporters of a club who's board have never offered them anything but an empty hand in terms of team investment. The way I see it is that Martinez knows how important Kone was to all the forward movement of his old club and that he'll want a player like that to immediately come in and do the same rather than cast around for a player who may or may not do that for him. As you say, it has the feel of short-termism about it. No one will care about that though if he kickstarts an attacking unit that gets 30+ goals next season.

So we have been crying out for a goal scoring striker for ages now and that was possibly the only reason that stopped us finishing in the top 4 last season and our answer to this is Kone who is nearly 30 ffs! Very underwhelming to be honest and we should be looking for someone better and younger as why can't we attract these players, we are Everton ffs, a great massive club! I do think we have some money to spend on transfers this summer as well and even more if players leave!

Agree with this, also worth noting that if he's good enough to progress us, he'll pay for himself with the extra league prize money instead of resale.

Why do people keep saying that 5 million is probably half of our transfer budget ?? How does anybody know ? I wish people would stop pulling numbers out of thin air without actually having anything to back this up....and not just what they think...

If you read my post properly I never said we should buy someone else for the same amount of money! I am saying we should be spending more on a striker as this is our main priority since that was probably the main reason that we missed out on 4th last season.

What we should spend and what we have are two different things.
