Stubbsy Is Back!

by Darren Griffiths | Tuesday 23 September 2008, 16:48

Alan Stubbs is back at Everton!
The former defender, who announced his retirement from the game earlier this season, has joined the coaching staff at Finch Farm.
Stubbs had two separate spells at Everton as a player, finally leaving for Derby County in January 2008, and he admitted that the move back to his boyhood club came as something of a surprise to him.
"It came a little bit out of the blue,” he revealed to evertonfc.com.
“There was a conversation about it a couple of weeks ago but nothing more than that at the time. It's only over the last few days it’s come to fruition.”
Stubbs will be operating alongside Andy Holden with the reserve squad and he is expected to work with Academy players as well.
He is already working his way through his coaching badges and he’s delighted to be back at Everton.
“I'm still pinching myself to be honest and really looking forward to the opportunity I've been given to come in and start at this level,” he said.
“First and foremost I’m looking forward to working with Taffy (Holden), the manager and everyone on the coaching side. It's a really exciting time for me."

Hopefully he can teach our defence how to communicate!

Model pro, knows what it means to be an Evertonian hopefully he can play a part in letting the new lads know what Everton means to us.

I think Stubbsy will add some good humour behind the scenes and lift the lads that little bit more. Personally I liked him as a player and his commitment to the blue shirt is never in question. This is a good addition to the backroom staff for us. Always thought he'd come home one day. Great stuff.

Excellent news, hopefully he's coming as a defensive coach!

It's always good to have local lads around the place who know what it's about, no doubt I'm expecting people to be dissapointed with this though. Some fans just don't like him.

It's got nothing to do with liking the bloke (or not). Is he qualified to be a coach? Coaching these days is often incredibly complicated, yet we as a country seem allergic to hiring someone that hasn't played professionally.

I can't for the life of me understand why his abilities as a player would make a blind bit of difference to his abilities as a coach. Was Mourinho any good as a player? How about Wenger?

It's the footballing equivalent of nepotism.

Couldn't say if he's full qualified or not, I do remember him saying in an interview that he was taking his coaching badges. That was quite a while a go.

Exactly, it adds to the atmosphere, now all we need is Ferguson and Carsley back as coaches and we're sorted :).

Great bit of news. He loves the club, the club loves him. The players like him and he likes the players. Win, win all the way (y)
