Stubbsy!

You don't appreciate a good defender then?

Stubbs was a class act to be honest, he helped push the club forward in his two spells here.

No i do, i didn't think much of him as a player. Consistent and willing to give 100%.

I'm more into my forwards or midfielders though.

How does that make him a good coach though? In football we seem obsessed with hiring former players as coaches, despite the success of people like Wenger, Mourinho, Sven and Benithez. The all concquering GB cycling team is full of people that don't even come from a sporting background let alone a cycling one.

Now I'm not trying to say he won't make a good coach because I simply don't know, but this assumption that he'll be great purely because he used to play for us is crazy.

Yet you like Jagielka? Very similar player to be honest, Stubbsy was also a class out and out defender. I think your hate for him is getting the better of you.

What are you on about pal?

He's a decent defender, nothing more, nothing less.

He was a better defender than anyone currently at the club, when I say that I mean out and out. He was a very good defender in my opinion, the impact he had on Moyes's teams speaks for itself.

Your wrong pal, end of.(y)

Nothing special about him. Decent defender that read's the game well.

Massive shitbag though.

I agree on both points.

I also agree with Bruce comments. Just because he was a die hard blue and a very good defender doesn't mean it will transfer.
I think its more to keep his hand in the game and keep him busy whilst he is doing his badges. I don't think he'll have any serious things to do until he is done with his badges and has settled in to a role.

You honestly think Stubbs was better than Lescott? Thats just silly and can somebody explain why Stubbs is a bad guy in the whole Rooney thing? Was it him that bid 30m for him?

Anyway im glad hes back and i agree kinda with Bruce, good players dont always make good coaches, infact its a given that you have to be pretty awful at playing to be a good coach. But surely we should give him a chance.

In terms of out and out defending yes he is, Jagielka is a better out and out defender than Lescott also. Lescott is the better footballer, the more talented player so to speak but he's not quite up to there level in terms of defending.

Obviously that's as a centre half, as a Left back Lescott is streets ahead.

great news to have stubbsey back at the club. as more foreigners come in to the game it is important to have blue blood people involved behind the scenes and on the coaching staff.

People seem to be mixing up managing and coaching.

Guys like Wenger, Mourinho, Benitez, Sir Alex and Guus Hiddink had relatively unspectacular playing careers yet went on to become accomplished managers.

They however always have coaches on their staff that were quality, accomplished players in their day - Pat Rice, Boro Primorac, Liam Brady, Mike Phelan, Brian McClair, Sammy Lee, Steve Clarke, Franco Baresi etc.

There are different qualities required to run the team than there are for relating one-to-one with the players on the training pitch, where the ability to pass on experience, understanding and technique improvement is invaluable.

Glad to have him back, the boys at the back clearly need a kick up the arse from somewhere.

I don't think nationality is an issue. It's not that long ago that Scottish players were regarded as foreign 'imports'. But I do agree that it's good to have the continuity and long term commitment that former players can bring among the back room staff.

of course you are dead right that nationality is not an issue. it was more a point about players coming in from foreign shores who perhaps do not know much about the fabric of the club.

well corrected.

Zico is a decent manager and he wasn't a crap player, Rijkkard and Van Basten are decent managers aswell and they were good players.

I have a feeling stubbsy will be alright at this coaching malarky.
