Transfer rumour - Stephan Lichtsteiner

Neither are as bad as your making out. Hibbert is better than Cal thinks whereas Neville is better than HalewoodBlue thinks. At the end of the day I think we'd all agree that we need to improve on both.

Hibbert is a better defender in terms of one on one defending. If he's faced with an out and out winger he is really good. He's occupied, the winger is always looking to hit the byline and Hibbert doesn't have to do any ball work.

Neville has better positioning. He reads things better and is rarely at fault for goals. He does have a tendency to back off though which is his weakness. Sometimes you have to put the tackle in. In terms of attacking game Nev is nothing special but he's far better than Hibbert. He supports his winger better, has better cross and looks for the ball more.

Neither are perfect but if I had to choose it would be Neville. He brings more to the game than Hibbo. Realistically I'd like to see both as squad players. They'd both be very good squad players.

Great post and just saved me ten minutes(y) I like both at full-back, again the point is about varience what we dont have is a pacey right full confident going forward to compliment Baines should the need arise in a certain system or formation i.e. 3-5-2 with wing backs, perhaps this lad is the guy, i heared the fee is £300,000 as the 700,000 was in euros.

Didnt way pay more then that for the likes of Scot Spencer and Lucas!

Agreed, variety is key. The more options we have the better we'll be.

I think it's key that we get some pace down the right hand side. If we have another fullback like Baines then it compliments our system. Arteta and Pienaar can drift inside, link play and Baines and possibly Lichtsteiner can bomb up and give us width.

It's key in the wingless like system we play. Wenger uses it at Arsenal. Roskicky and Hleb drift inside and Sagna and Clincy provide the width and penetration.

I think both Hibbert and Neville limit Arteta's game sometimes. They fail to get beyond him and don't always give him an option. Someone with pace would create space for Arteta to work his magic.

True really we are only missing the right full to acheive this, i would also like a couple of pacey wingers as well to add another dimension, we could see Areta or Pienaar drift inside and play in the postion Ossie played much of last season and one i had ear marked for fernandes. Either to start or change depending on the game.

Like a possible sceario/formation to sart or bring on the two wingers after 65 mins:

----------------------------DM-------------------------------

Winger----------Cahill---------------Arteta/Pienaar------------Winger

Both our wing men tend to drift inside and could easily play a playmaking role in that space, while at the same time could be a good use and system of resting players.

I've said before Arteta or Fernandes would be my choice for the creative central midfield role. Both are natural dictators, both can pass both short and long and both have the skill and creativity to open up defenses.

Pienaar I don't think would suit it. He'd be very similar to Osman in there. He's more of a pass and move player whereas Fernandes and Arteta can get hold of it and dictate.

If we want to move up the the next level I feel we need a more rounded central midfielder. Both Fernandes and Arteta have more to there game than Ossie.

I'd like to see us go for Giles Barnes. He's young, he's got lots of potential and I don't think he'd mind sitting on the bench and learning from the likes of Arteta, Pienaar and Osman.

We don't really need a qualiity proven winger. We should look for one with potential, one with pace to burn and one which would give us a different option from the bench.

I honestly think Pienaar could do a job in there your right what you say though as usual mate, Fernandes and Arteta would be ideal. But i could see see Pienaar adding a bit of verve, and tenacity there that we lacked with Cahill being injured, his vision is quite good to mate but your right not of the quality of Arteta or Fernades and often get over looked, i could see the odd one two with Yak up front.

Barnes is a great shout, i like him a lot and he is definitely a good priemership player wiating to happen, he has better quality then the level he will be playing at if he stays with dearby! The one thing that concerns me about him though is his attitude. Not that i have seen him fall out of night clubs or anything, but i watched him a fair bit the year Derby got promoted and his attitude to more senior players both his own and oppositon really sucked, stunk of a big time charlie persona. Having said that if we could get him in young and sort him out i would be all for it, i certainly think he could contribute in the short term as well as the long term, like you say in and out of the first team untill he develops and he will!

Another one i would love to see us have a go for would be Kightley of Wolves, great engine, tenacity, skill, determination, able to whip in a cross and carry the ball over large areas going forward, he can also score a few too! Unfortnately has just recently signed a contract at Wolves.

Personally i would hate if Stewart Downing became available and we didnt go in for him, despite an apparent need for central midfeilders, i think he could add some serious quality to the sqaud, and like i said would enable, Arteta and Pienaar to move in field. Not of the up and coming variety but i feel he still has a lot of room for development.

I think the good thing is we have three players who are perfectly capable of playing left, right and centre in Osman, Arteta and Pienaar. Hopefully four if we tie up Fernandes. They are a good base to build on. We may have a small midfield but all four are of good quality.

Pienaar I'd like to see in other roles. We didn't get to see what he's like as Moyes didn't move him centrally last season. I wouldn't mind seeing him in the hole in Europe. Maybe if Cahill is injured he could do a job there. He's quick thinking, good touch and has that pass and move style that's suited to the role. Who knows? Maybe Moyes will give him a go there next season.

Both Kightly and Downing would be excellent options. I'd probably just edge for Kightly because of the size of our budget. He's younger and has alot of potential. I'm sure he's left footed aswell which would be useful. If we had the money though I would go for Downing.

It's just one more day, no one said there won't be rain again. I won't blame it on myself, i'll blame it on the weatherman.
