Summer transfer window.

….before the game I feared Haaland against that pairing but too be fair they managed him quite well for most of the game. It was a strange goal, Tarkowski maybe just got too far apart but there was a gaping hole to deliver the pass.

Haaland has troubled most defences in the league for two seasons now, the two other goals came from outside the box. Keane and Tarkowski are still very decent at this level, Keane in particular has had a good season.
Even though the defending was abysmal you have to give Kovacic a lot of credit not only for the through ball but for how he manipulated himself into the position to play the pass as it was done so quickly it caught us napping

….and maybe the situation of being 3-1 down made him be a bit more direct rather than patiently working the ball as they usually do.

Come on eggs...

Managed him quite well most of the game apart from inexplicably leaving a gap a mile wide for him to run through direct from kick off. Was a poor goal to concede that cost us the game, and those two players have to take responsibility for it. Tarkowski said as much himself.

As for the two of them being very decent at this level, all I will say is that if we didn't have the best keeper in the league this season their goals conceded would be very different. Tarkowski this season has been bailed out by Pickford more times than I can count.
Think if you look at the back line at the point of the through ball, the CBs are being helped by the FBs being wide and advanced.

Why the 4 of them weren't stood in a line, shoulder to shoulder and parked on the edge of the box for that last 10 min after we made it 3 1, is beyond me.

So amateurish.

Do you not think we are limited by our full backs mate, instead of our full backs supporting our wingers, our wingers have to support our full backs - there is nothing for it then to have a deep line, Jake really isnt a full back, hes a third centre half most of the time, to be fair we've been higher this year.
Absolutely, but our centre backs are both low block bottom third quality players and have been all of their careers. Keane is actually a decent passer of the ball of given time. Tawks is awful on the ball and his clearances always go straight to the opposition. Two of the worst regular starters at centre half since the 90s.

Limited by Keane in my view. We play 5-10 yards deeper because he has zero pace and neither does tarks. But JB alongside Tarks means JB can get back.

Because we are coming at it from a deeper starting point, the fullbacks have more work to do to get forward and the wingers end up playing so deep or are too isolated.
